Score Change: HISTORY ($600) Overthrown by the U.S., this Panamanian dictator was convicted in Miami of federal drug & racketeering charges in 1992 — Matt buzzed in and responded with “Noriega” after his time ran out. Kathleen buzzed in with “Samoza” and lost $600. VJ—poor Matt? He’s laughing all the way to the bank (or while staring at his bank account on his phone). Now Patrick…(the word infamy crosses my mind).

    I kid 🙂

  2. Ismael Gomez says:

Sorry that the clues were mean to Patrick. Darn those daily doubles for Matt’s opponents.

I think some contestants get more nervous than other contestants. I’m cautious in criticizing contestants who don’t perform well under pressure. Some people shine in the limelight and others freeze as soon as they buzz in. I don’t see it as a reflection of their knowledge. It’s a situation of one chance and you are done. Over the years I’ve had brilliant graduate students who would rather die than give a Powerpoint presentation. It didn’t hit them that they were fearful until they got up to present. Their research was impeccable so it was obvious they knew the information. Research has shown that most people would rather die than speak in public.

Having said this I think it’s one thing for someone to want to go on Jeopardy until reality sets in. The guest host has been in show business for 45 years but was clearly nervous imo. If this does not address the angst when reality sets in I don’t know what does. Just my observation.

    • Howard says:

Very well put. I read an article tonight online in which LeVar said he was a nervous wreck before and during the first episode.

I wonder if minus $7400 is a new record?

  4. VJ says:

Poor Matt. Everyone would be talking about Matt beating the 4-day curse if it wasn’t for that negative score.

I don’t see what Patrick hoped to accomplish by buzzing in with wild guesses when he already knew he couldn’t possibly catch up to Kathleen, nevermind Matt. I was thinking that maybe Patrick wanted to see how far down he could go in the hole.

  5. Jeopardy! lover says:

Wow, poor Patrick. -$7,400 is the lowest score on the show as of 7/26/21.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

Oh my goodness -$7,400 is the lowest score recorded on the show. I got to say that is the worst score in the history of Jeopardy! It just wasn’t Patrick’s day as he became the most unluckiest contestant ever with lots of incorrect responses.

    • Ryan McClelland says:

I’d kinda have to agree with you on this. In fact, this was indeed the lowest score that’s ever recorded on Jeopardy. Can you just imagine a player finishing with a score like this? I would probably give credit to him if I had kept track of these scores.

      • Lou says:

Me too, prescilla Drobes also had the lowest score as well in 2020 when she faced off against Veronica Vichit Vadikan. And of course during Kristen Sausville’s run stephanie also had the lowest score too. Its so tough seeing Patrick finishing with a score like this with so many bad guesses. My question is how did he get selected? But still congrats to matt winning and to kathleen on getting final right. I am thinking Matt definitely get get a streak running tomorrow if he keeps this up. He is following the chuck forrest bounce even if he didn’t need the other daily doubles to score a runaway.

    • Albert says:

Maybe he wanted to set the record for low score and be remembered for that. Maybe he wants to get on The Tonight Show and other shows. It will be interesting if he is able to gain celebrity and make money from his low score notoriety.
