WHO IS IZAAK WALTON?

English author, Izaak Walton is best known for his work “The Compleat Angler,” first published in 1683. Walton was 30-something years older than Charles Cotton and was friends first with Cotton’s father. The younger Cotton regarded Walton as a father figure. Despite the age and other differences, “this seventeenth-century odd couple, Izaak Walton, the elderly linen-draper, who fishes with minnows and maggots, and Charles Cotton, the genteel fly-fisherman” became fast friends and Cotton contributed to Walton’s famous work. The clue makes it sound like Walton was dead when Cotton built the fishing cottage on the grounds of his estate beside the River Dove in 1674. However, Walton was very much alive. He died in 1683.

Jennifer got it right. Her $1,801 bet brought her up to $12,001.

Roey came up with John Milton (died in 1674). That only cost him $1,000 and he won the game with $23,600. Roey Hadar is the new Jeopardy! champ.

I watch environmental tv shows a lot and today’s fj name comes up a lot in relation to fishing. There is an organization in his name in the USA. The website is Izaak Walton League of America

  2. Albert says:

Would holzhauer have gotten the Final? That was a tough Final. I’m surprised anybody got it right. I had john donne.

  3. Howard says:

Wow, that Roey is whip-smart, and only 23! He did miss relatively easy answers (Grover Cleveland, Reebok, and Izaak Walton), and won only because it was a runaway. But he knew way more than I did. (Same thing happened to me as it did to Jennifer, but that’s a story for another day.)

  4. Scott Akers says:

That was tough final question. Congratulations to Roey. He beat a very smart 5 day winner.
I don’t watch tv series or commit to watching a show every week. However, I get home in time for Jeopardy every night and people who know me don’t call between 7 – 7:30 pm. Bucket list item: Jeopardy contestant.

  5. Lou says:

Yup congrats to all the players today and to roey on winning. We will see sam in 2020. Although the guesses wasn’t too bad, I would say roey might have potential to build a streak of his own like Sam and Ryan did. Also congrats to Jennifer on getting this right.

  6. VJ says:

Well, that was quite a game. Congrats to all the players: to Roey on winning, to Jennifer on getting FJ and to Sam on winning so big yesterday that it was ike winning 2 games.

I have to run out to the store with Thing 1 and Thing 2 so here’s the extra clues already:
