WHO IS BRIGHAM YOUNG
Ann Eliza Webb was actually the 53rd woman Brigham Young married. The “Wife No. 19” title of her exposé was likely due to fluctuation of wives due to death, divorce, or other factors. Webb’s suit for divorce against Brigham Young attracted national attention. She got her divorce but not the alimony she sought. Webb chose to spill the beans on Brigham Young and polygamy, becoming an activist on the lecture circuit. She also testified before Congress in 1874, in support of anti-polygamy laws. It would still be almost 20 years before the LDS Church renounced the practice, as a condition of obtaining statehood. In 2020, polygamy was decriminalized in Utah and it is now considered an infraction.
Webb was Ann Eliza’s maiden name. “Wife No. 19” was published under the name Ann Eliza Young. She was married and divorced 3 times: first from James Dee, then from Brigham Young, and finally from Moses Dennings. She alleged various abuses and sought alimony in each cause of action.
Khalid thought it was Hugh Hefner, who was married 3 times. He lost $8,399 and finished with $1.00.
Patience got it right. She doubled up and finished with $18,800.
Caleb thought it was Vladimir Nabokov, whose only marriage lasted 52 years. Caleb lost $3,000 but won the game with the remaining $20,000. His 9-day total is $240,500.
