WHAT IS FRANCE AND PRUSSIA?
The Franco-Prussian War took place between July of 1870 until the French were defeated in January of 1871. From History.com: “The humiliating defeat of Louis Napoleon’s Second Empire of France is made complete on May 10, 1871, when the Treaty of Frankfurt am Main is signed, ending the Franco-Prussian War and marking the decisive entry of a newly unified German state on the stage of European power politics, so long dominated by the great empires of England and France.”
According to Wikipedia, Prussian blue was around more than a century before the Franco-Prussian War and “From the beginning of the 18th century, Prussian blue was the predominant uniform coat color worn by the infantry and artillery regiments of the Prussian Army.” Bleu de France (Blue of France) “has been used in the heraldry of the French monarchy since at least the 12th century…. A brighter version, based on the blue of the French Tricolour, is used in modern times, particularly in a sporting context.”
Xiao went with Britain and France. She lost her $6,201 bet and was left with $799.
Jay went with Indigo. That cost him $11,799 and left him with $1.
Courtney got it right. She bet $10,500 and won the game with $23,700. Courtney’s 2-day total is $39,100.

This morning, we were talking about how we got the right response to FJ! on Spoiler Talk. I got it from the War Approach. I always remember the dates of the Franco-Prussian War because of this short story by Alphonse Daudet called “The Last Class”. When the war ended, France surrendered most of Alsace and parts of Lorraine to the new German Empire. A schoolboy tells how that affected him in this story.
The way Rhonda got it is even better: the Soap Opera Approach. She recently saw a storyline involving poison (the antidote: Prussian Blue) on the Young and the Restless, after seeing a similar one a few years ago on General Hospital. She figured out the other country from there.
Yes, that was it, thalium poisoning! The poor guy nearly died, thank goodness the doctors figured out in time that Prussian Blue was called for. LOL The Soap Opera Approach, I love that, VJ! You never cease to amaze me with your diligence and thoroughness!
Good win today by Courtney. I definitely hope she can end the string of leader curses. Since veronica had won four games last year I think Courtney could do what veronica did. Indigo wasn’t a bad guess but it wasn’t close. I heard of Prussian blue but not french blue.
I definitely hope she becomes a 4x champ or a 5x champ or maybe even a 999999999999x champ in the future beating Ken Jennings!
