WHAT IS INFAMY?

After learning of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, President Franklin D. Roosevelt dictated a short speech to his secretary, Grace Tully. After she typed up her notes, FDR edited the first draft by hand: “On draft No. 1, Roosevelt changed ‘a date which will live in world history’ to ‘a date which will live in infamy,’ providing the speech its most famous phrase and giving birth to the term, ‘day of infamy,’ which December 7, 1941, is often called.” Source: National Archives — they have images of FDR’s handwritten revisions to what became one of the most famous speeches of the 20th century.

Noura thought it was democracy. She lost $4,000 and finished with $200.

Kris got it right. He bet it all and doubled his score to $12,600.

Ryan got it, too. He bet $100 and won the game with $12,900. His 9-day total is $173,301.

As is becoming common, I’ll concur with Howard. It was a notably low scoring game, to which Ryan seems to be akin, but, at least he’s engaging about it. But, a $12,800 runaway? That doesn’t look good for the challengers.

Again, I got about half of the TS. I don’t know if I would call FJ “easy” (not saying anyone did, I’m just saying), but, I did get it. Wasn’t confident, though.

  2. Howard says:

Lame game. Way too many missed answers and stumpers. A few “gimmes” among them, such as Sonora’s country, very south Florida city, Miller beer.

  3. Albert says:

    I really miss mattea roach.

I really don’t. She was as charismatic as watching paint dry (notwithstanding my mixed metaphor).

  4. Louis says:

Happy to see Kris and Ryan getting final. Good game by all the players.
