Ketty got the last Daily Double in “Sadjectives” under the $2,000 clue with 2 clues left after it. She was in last place with $1,800, $8,600 less than Megan’s lead. Ketty bet $2,000 but drew a blank so she was WRONG.

After the beheading of King Charles I on 1/30/1649, the English monarchy was abolished as “unnecessary, burdensome, and dangerous to the liberty, safety, and public interest of the people…” with claims of abuse of regal power and dire consequences laid out for anyone even thinking of helping the King’s progeny get their hands on the crown. That paved the way for Oliver Cromwell to set up a new form of government and to abuse his powers. This period without the monarchy is known as the Interregnum (interval between reigns). Charles II was restored to the throne in 1660. Oliver Cromwell passed away from natural causes two years earlier. That was no obstacle for angry Royalists who exhumed his body and beheaded him posthumously.
Ketty did not have a response. She didn’t bet anything either so her score remained at $200.
Megan wrote down “the crown”. That was not accepted because of the etymology. She lost $9,599 and finished with $401.
Tory came up with “solo”. He lost $10,000 and finished with $200. That gave the game to Megan, who qualifies for the Tournament of Champions with this win. Her 5-day total is $52,002.

Megan’s FJ wager was made to lock out Ketty, but a $201 wager would have sufficed and netted her a much larger win total. She would win only if Tory bet big (which he pretty much had to) and missed, regardless of how much or little she wagered.
Ketty went for the kill/runaway on that DD, but in hindsight a $1000 wager would have preserved her lead at that moment.
I should have got the Final but couldn’t. Did know the Hampton play, the “My baby” tune, the body tube, and the microscope. These “youngsters” always clean my clock on newer music.
Was very surprised to get an email Saturday inviting me to a Zoom audition for passing the online test that I took in March. They never give the answers or say what passing score is, but I figure it has to be 45/50. I figured I was somewhere between 40 and 45. It’s all moot because I’m not eligible, but they do allow anyone to take the test even if it’s for fun.
Bad news: Ketty, I start by saying “Darn those Daily Doubles”.

I am simply convinced that Mayim doesn’t review the games before they’re broadcast, like Alex did. I was speaking French today at work with a fellow from the Congo, and I certainly couldn’t understand her French, and I don’t think my friend could, either.
I got the 1912 song. As for the air travel and ears, the word for which they were looking has been largely obviated, as eponyms (names for things that are named after people) are very much out and being replaced by functional and anatomic names. One example is “fallopian tubes”. Nope. “Ovarian tubes”.
If you look back, I predicted Megan might have a run. What I did NOT predict was the “penny ante” winnings.
I got the 1912 song, too. That’s I Love Lucy’s “Fred Mertz” singing it in the video I linked to. He was the first to perform it publicly.
I also got the “sullen” sadjective and Nikki got that DD before me or Ketty.
idk what French I missed Mayim saying besides the French title of that Christopher Hampton play. I assumed the English title would have been accepted.
That was it. I wondered if they would have taken English, also. But, her French was not good.

Brilliant wagering strategy again from Megan, but I think she got away with one, tonight. I could be wrong, and I don’t have the ability to rewind, but I’m sure I heard her answer “Czechloslovakia” adding an “L” to the name Czechoslovakia. If I did hear that correctly, iIt seems to me that in the past, adding a letter to a proper name would have been disallowed.
Megan definitely deserved the 5th win even if it was 50k. The last time we had a 5 time champion with that sort of win was Paul Nelson. And then Rani Peffer was also a 5 time champion with 60k. We’ll definitely see Megan use her betting strategy in the next toc
That was a tough final as we got a triple stumper.
@VJ, After reading your recap today I got curious about Megan’s academic background training. Well it turns out that she’s fairly sharp upstairs regardless of her $10,400 average daily winnings as of today. Per her Linkedin page she has an undergraduate degree in Mathematics (Illinois) a la James Holzhauer, Law Degree (J.D.) Yale University, & Ph.D. from Berkeley. Professor at Santa Clara U. & Lawyer as well as a member of the Sierra Club.
Megan’s ability to squeak by in the past 5 games appears to be, imo, more of an ability to read her opponents impending strategy, beat them at their own strategy and win. That takes methodical thinking & good math skills. Looking at your screenshot above she appears shocked that she won. That is the look of someone who is surprised her strategy paid off no matter how miniscule. I have watched Jeopardy since Art Fleming was at the helm & I can’t recall anyone winning 5 games under the radar like Megan. Absolutely amazing.
Oops. I left out Megan’s M.Phil degree University of Cambridge. That’s included on her faculty page Santa Clara University School of Law. Can’t wait to see what happens tomorrow on Jeopardy.
What a crazy game at the end wasn’t it? The first 24 clues of DJ! was a competitive game for all three players until Ketty got the first DD made the right play by betting big but she answered wrong. Then she answered the following clue incorrectly then finds the second DD but drew a blank. Ketty was at -$200 with only two clues remaining luckily she got back on the plus side with one clue left and she made to FJ! with $200 and is still very much alive in this game. Then it comes down to FJ! where none of the contestants came up with the correct response and Megan won again thanks to her wagering strategy and it paid off once again. Megan only won $401 which is the lowest total of the season but she is now a 5 day champion with just over 52 grand which is the lowest 5 day total to qualify for the TOC. I got to say that Megan deserves absolutely 100 percent to be a 5 day champion thanks to her betting strategy that has helped her won multiple games and her luck keeps going well for her.
