TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
The best article I could find for an overview of the musical genius of the Newman family is “The Newmans, a movie music dynasty” on CBSnews.com. It begins: “Of all the Oscar-nominated composers who have recorded at 20th Century Fox, there’s one name spoken with such reverence it’s as if this scoring stage was a chapel: that name is Newman.”
An old clue from 1997: HOLLYWOOD FAMILIES ($400) Last name of composer cousins Randy & Thomas, who were both Oscar-nominated for scoring 1995 films
William got it right. He bet $700, bringing him up to $1,500.
Wyatt went with Hitchcock. He lost his $5,000 bet, finishing with $7,600.
James got it right, too. He bet $27,000 and won the game with $79,633. His 32-day total is $2,462,216.
One triple stumper from the last round:
GEOGRAPHIC TERMS ($1600) A rugged mountain pass is a gap, & an especially rugged gap is a notch, like this one, just east of Burlington
2 years ago: Only ONE of the players got this FJ in “Social & Sports Barriers”
Condoleezza Rice & South Carolina businesswoman Darla Moore became the first female members of this in 2012. show

Why did James Holzhauer not set a new one day record on Monday, 5/27? He should have bet $59,106 at least to set a new one day record!
Like the last five regular play weeks, none of this week’s challengers played to become giant killer.
Starting to think James has a photographic memory.
James Holzhauer missed Final on April 11. Can’t believe he’s still going!
Today’s episode is preempted in the Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News area.
I never heard of the Newmans. I picked Barrymore but I knew I was wrong.
Like Randy Newman I guess. Oscar for musical score.
Well, here’s what we know now: either James is going down on Monday or Ken Jennings’ record is going down.

Cece, the $2,000 Alter Ego clue was as easy as the $400 clue!
I think James is going down in September. And one of his opponents will keep it a secret, like Nancy Zerg did.
did you mean snape? haha unless it is snake then my bad lmao
yes, jane. Thanks. I did mean snape. lol.
Or, they were both difficult, VJ—depending on who you ask. I didn’t get either clue. The $400 one, I had no idea, and as for the $2,000, I’m only vaguely familiar with David Bowie’s songs. The ones my mom used to play when i was little, Let’s Dance, Modern Love, etc. So Ziggy Stardust didn’t come to me. 🙂
Good point, Cece!
Btw, since I hardly watch J! anymore (for a few reasons), I want you to know how much I appreciate the categories and stumpers you post on “The Link” (now a thing, lol). And I’m sure that are many of us.
Thanks, Cece! Inquiring minds want to know — are you going to be able to make time to watch Monday’s (possibly) historic game?
I doubt I will watch the game but, my money is definitely on James. “All in.” 🙂
Well, whichever way it goes down, I’m sure there will plenty of clips online!
OMG, we’re in for a s— storm about it!
The contestants James beat we’re like in a boxing match.
Well at least this week has been strong for James despite a near loss situation. Congratulations on his 32nd victory. Newman reminded me of Paul Newman from the Outsiders movie featuring Ponyboy Curtis. Do you remember it VJ? Still at the pace James is going he is very close to that goal. Sad that William couldn’t get much going but glad he got this right.
