I had Suriname in the Final.

  2. Howard says:

Showing my age, I guess, when I knew the Pierce car, the Ford ornament clue, and the “Some Enchanted Evening” show.

I thought Nell was toast when she missed that early, very gettable DD about the Polish opposition. But, unfazed, she immediately made her comeback. Very surprised she wagered wimpily on those last 2 DDs, either of which could have given her a runaway win with a slightly larger wager.

Anyone else think she and Zooey “New Girl” Deschanel were separated at birth? Nell even has similar gestures and mannerisms. Looking forward to seeing her next week. She’s so full of life and has such a quick mind.

That final was too tough for me. I usually do well on them. Didn’t associate NZ with the Dutch, but now that I think of it, Zeeland is a place in the Netherlands.

Yian seemed to be outclassed. The dead air was nearly palpable. However, I concur with the write-up. He had started his answer; that seems kinda sketchy that he didn’t start the factual part until time was up.

Again, the hesitating, halting delivery by Mayim was a negative.

Nell, though? To quote my friend I don’t actually know, “This girl is on fire!” I liked her solid responses. I got FJ wrong; I said “Indonesia”. Had I put more thought into it, I might have gotten it, as I really appreciate Pacific languages, and I always associate Ara Moana NZ and Ala Moana, on O’ahu. There was some KL/TR switch some time in the past, between north and south Pacific. In Hawai’an, it would be Aokealoa. Sorry for the verbosity. So, good on Nell! Hope she strings a few together!

Like Howard above, I knew the Pierce car, too, as they were built here in Buffalo!

      • Lou says:

Same here i knew the pierce car and the muscle car as well. Buffalo is popular with those models. Some enchanted evening I knew immediately.

I also hope Nell continues her win and will be a superchamp.

      • Mollie says:

        Hi Jason,

Are you referring to Yian’s answer he gave for “Hearst Castle” for which he hesitated? Thank you.

        • Jason says:

Yeah, I think he got railroaded, and that is directly at Mayim’s feet.

        • VJ says:

Jason, I don’t think it’s Mayim’s fault. Sometimes it seems like the player is not given enough time and sometimes it seems like the player is given too much time. Imo, it’s something the show should take care of. An audible signal would work nicely.

      • Howard says:

I meant to mention that all I could come up with was Indonesia.

As far as the “Hearst Castle” debacle goes, we at home don’t know what transpired. They will often make corrections during the show and edit them in later. I suspect that’s what may have happened, who knows? We do know that sometimes a correction is made to a score mid-show, then the host points it out before a DD or FJ are wagered. I know from personal experience that taping is sometimes stopped while research is done to check on an alternate fact or a pronunciation that was made.

    • rhonda says:

Howard, that’s exactly what I was thinking about Nell being Zoe Deschanel’s identical twin, it was so uncanny that I couldn’t stop thinking it throughout the whole show.

  3. Ron DePari says:

Was Nell ever on jeopardy before

    • VJ says:

not to my knowledge, Ron. Do you see the Tags under the recap? If you click on Evan, you will see other games in this season and prior seasons with a contestant named Evan. So far, there’s only one Nell and one Yian.

  4. Richard Corliss says:

It would be nice if Nell had the two Daily Doubles on the last two picks. Then it would be hilarious.

  5. Lou says:

A very strong start for Nell today I am very impressed at her knowledge so far. I remember visiting the breakers in Rhode Island a few years ago with my family and some of my mom’s friends visiting from China.

So we finished off the week with a 4 day champ to end march and a possible new streaker in Nell for April. We shall see what happens next week.
