TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS A BUTTERFLY?

The main character in “A Sound of Thunder” is Eckles, a rich hunter who pays 10 grand to go back in time and hunt Tyrannosaurus Rex. The insect Eckles finds on his shoe when he returns is a butterfly that got on there because Eckles broke the rule of staying on the path in the past. This caused undesirable changes in the future. Eckles begs his guide, Travis, to take him back so that he can undo his mistake by staying on the path. Travis can’t because it’s not possible to return to a place they already visited.

Also see, All the Tropes wiki: “First written by Ray Bradbury as a short story for Colliers magazine in 1952, A Sound of Thunder has become the most re-published science fiction story of all time. Its influence can be seen all over the fictional world, particularly due to its introduction of the Time Travel plot in which ‘small changes in the past snowball into the future’.”

Laura took an ugly bug guess with cockroach. She lost her $6,201 bet and finished with $1,399.

Lindsey got it right. He bet $10,000 to his score and that brought hm up to $21,400.

Zach got it right, too. He added $9,001 to his score and won the game with $22,801. Zach Shrier is the new Jeopardy! champ.

wouldn’t yesterday’s and today’s FJs be considered the same category?
well, i predicted a triple stumper and surprised that two people got it.
i was rooting for Lindsay, good player and seems like a nice person. pity he chose “conservationist” (15 letters) over environmentalist (16). there was no time to count.

Only a combined Coryat of $34,200 today. Thanks for posting VJ. Jeopardy is not on tonight where I am apparently.

  3. VJ says:

I wonder if this short story was the inspiration for Bizarro World in the Superman comics

    • Lou says:

Yeah I was thinking of the same thing as well with the butterfly thing. I used to read this in high school and it kind of creeps me out VJ. Laura played well but these last few weeks of two time champs need to get up to three or four day champs. We need an end to this leader curse and soon. Perhaps Zach can do it. He and Lindsey were evenly matched and Laura couldn’t keep up.

      • William Weyser says:

If this Zach can break the curse, he could possibly join Zach Newkirk in the next Tournament of Champions, but the producers would have to place them in separate games, because if they’re not careful enough, or if they make it to the Finals, 1 of the 2 Zachs would have to go by Zachary, in order to avoid confusion, which can work out for the winner. In 1996, 2 Michaels: Dupee & Daunt made it to the Finals in that year’s Tournament of Champions, and Michael Dupee was kind enough to change his name to Mike Dupee, in order to avoid confusion, and it worked out very well for him, because Mike won the tournament.
