WHO IS DESMOND TUTU?

Desmond Tutu (1931–2021) was a South African Anglican archbishop. He became a minister in 1961 and studied theology in London for 6 years. After teaching in southern Africa in various posts, Tutu was appointed dean of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Johannesburg in 1975. He then served as Bishop of the Kingdom of Lesotho from 1976 to 1978. At this point, Tutu became a vocal critic of apartheid in South Africa. Throughout the rest of his life, he worked tirelessly to oppose apartheid by non-violent protest and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1984. In his acceptance speech, he said that there would be no peace in southern Africa until there was justice for everyone. After retiring from the clergy in 1996, his title was Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town. See a timeline of Desmond Tutu’s life.

Forest Whitaker starred as Desmond Tutu in “The Forgiven” (2017). Tutu himself provided the voice of Baba in the animated film “Jock the Hero Dog” (2011).

Shocked that even one player missed that cinch FJ. I thought Jeff would wager $4101 instead of $0, because Cris pretty much had to wager $8601. Either way, Jeff wins if both guys miss FJ.

Lots of stumpers tonight and some toughies that were answered, mostly by Cris, that stumped me. The missed DD (Liz Shuler’s nomination) wasn’t too tough, although “federation” was an unusual alternative to “union.”. Knew the “hand” extortion gang, clotted cream county, prima ballerina, and the alliterative phrase for money.
