Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS STONEWALL?

“On Friday evening, June 27, 1969, the New York City tactical police force raided a popular Greenwich Village gay bar, the Stonewall Inn. Raids were not unusual in 1969; in fact, they were conducted regularly without much resistance. However, that night the street erupted into violent protest as the crowds in the bar fought back. The backlash and several nights of protest that followed have come to be known as the Stonewall Riots…. The Stonewall Riots marked the beginning of the gay liberation movement that has transformed the oppression of gays and lesbians into calls for pride and action.” Excerpt from Columbia University’s online exhibition, Stonewall and Beyond, which features clippings from the New York City press in 1969, as well as firsthand accounts published in later years.

Christian thought it was Central State University. It didn’t matter that he didn’t finish the U word. He lost his $700 bet and finished with $300.

Evan got it right. He bet $3,000 and finished with $20,400.

Jackie thought it was Radio City Music Hall. She finished with $5,199 after losing her $14,801 bet. That made Evan Roberts the new Jeopardy! champ.

I’m glad that Jackie lasted 4 episodes. It must be hard to smile when one is trying to concentrate, plus maybe being a little bit nervous. She did very well, and I’m sure she’s a lovely person.

  2. Jason says:

That’s too bad for Jackie. As far as the TOC goes, though, the producers can do whatever they want, like when they put up Emma against James Holzhauer for the ‘rematch”, where he won; recall that she only won 3 games.

After yesterday, when she was better, Mayim was, once again, halting and hesitant. On the waltz TS, she could have said “more specific”, but, didn’t. And, when Christian timed out, not saying anything, she said, “wrong”. That was clanky. Again, it seemed like she wasn’t sure of what she was doing, and had to refer to the judges. Not good TV.

At least jackie got a spot in the toc as the 15th participant. The four game curse strikes again.

I still remember the riots pretty well. But it is sad that the police have mistreated the gay community after they were in that bar. Still this event left a long lasting impact in the community.

Are you sure she’s in? Seems too soon to make that conclusion, but I don’t keep track of those things. I kind of figured that 5+ game winners are picked first, and if there are more than 15 including special tournament winners, the last ones must wait till the following ToC. And if there are fewer than 15 during the qualifying period, then they would go to 4-game winners who’ve won the most $$. I’d like some clarification or confirmation on that.

As an 18-year-old living in NYC when the Stonewall confrontation occurred, I knew that one. But I also thought it was a pretty tough one to get, so props to Evan for knowing it.

      • VJ says:

Howard, Jeopardy keeps a Tournament Tracker list. Right now, Jackie is at the head of the class of 4x winners. I take that to mean that she has the best chance of getting in the ToC of all 4x winners, but that can change until they announce a cutoff (if they do).

It actually says at the bottom of that list that “All 4-time and over winning players starting from 01/05/21 will be eligible for a future Tournament of Champions” — of course, eligible and guaranteed are two different things.

That’s all I know. I don’t keep track of this stuff anymore for several reasons. One of them is, they can skip over whomever they please.

        • Jason says:

I didn’t see (or register, perhaps) your comment, VJ! You posted 15 minutes before I did, but, we said the same thing: producers do what they want!

        • VJ says:

No problem, Jason. You know what they say — fine minds, and all that 🤣

    • Miriam Scaccio says:

      if Jackie would only smile!!!

Quite a shame, thought she might guarantee her slot in the TOC tonight
