Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/23/2018) in the category “Unreal Estate” was:

New champ Lynn Klyde-Allaman, won $8,800 yesterday. In her second game, she is up against these two players: Daniel Ludlam, from Claremont, CA; and Tristan Mohabir, from Washington, D.C.

Round 1 Categories: Sage Advice – By the Numbers – Disneyland: Yesterday & Today – “Bell”, “Book” & No Candle – Where’d That Happen? – Novels With Conflict

Daniel found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Where’d That Happen?” under the $1,000 clue on the 5th pick of the round. He was in second place with $800, $400 less than Lynn’s lead. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.

Round 2 Categories: A Sage’s Advice – Desert Wildlife – Characters Who Don’t Talk Much – It Lasts a While – Time Magazine’s Person of the Year – Mexican States

Tristan found the first Daily Double in “Desert Wildlife” under the $1,600 clue on the 2nd pick. He was in third place with $3,000 now, $1,200 less than Lynn’s lead. He made it a true Daily Double and he was RIGHT.

4 clues later, Tristan found the last Daily Double in “Time Magazine’s Person of the Year” under the $2,000 clue. In the lead with $8,400, he had double Lynn’s second place score. He bet $4,000 and went with George W. Bush. That was WRONG.

Lynn finished in the lead with $17,400. Daniel was next with $9,800 and Tristan was in third place with $7,600.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT IS “TREASURE ISLAND”?

The locations in the clue are mentioned in Chapter 12 of “Treasure Island,” Robert Louis Stevenson’s tale of “buccaneers and buried gold.” Jim Hawkins has just learned of Long John Silver’s nefarious mutiny plans in Chapter 11. As the Hispaniola arrives within sight of Skeleton Island, Silver says he knows the place well: “That hill to the nor’ard they calls the Fore-mast Hill; there are three hills in a row running south’ard–fore, main, and mizzen, sir. But the main–that’s the big un, with the cloud on it–they usually calls the Spy-glass…” He is shown a copy of Billy Bones’ map minus the red crosses and handwritten notes on the original. Silver conceals his annoyance and points out ‘Capt. Kidd’s Anchorage’ on the map.

Tristan got it right. He doubled his score to $15,200.

Daniel wrote down “Neverland.” He lost his $7,605 bet, leaving him with $2,195.

Lynn had “Robinson Crusoe.” She lost $2,201, finishing with $15,199. That made Tristan Mohabir the new Jeopardy! champ. Shiver me timbers!

For the 2nd time this week, 1 of the trailers gets Final Jeopardy! right, and wagers the right amount, while the leader gets Final Jeopardy! wrong, wagers $1 too much, and that $1 costs the leader the win. Man, that’s a bummer for Lynn, but doing the right thing paid off for Tristan. Congratulations, and I’m interested to see what Tristan will do on Monday.

I have to disagree. Lynn’s wager was the correct one. If Daniel had done what Tristan did and doubled his score, then Lynn’s wager with a correct answer would have the been the minimum needed to beat him by a dollar. For FJ wagering as the leader you have to look at the person in second place before you worry about the person in third.

      • William Weyser says:

Kevin, I do know that Lynn made the right choice in terms of the wager. It just didn’t work out for her in the end.

Felt sure this super easy final would be a triple-get. Really surprised. RLS classic novel of 1883 has been one of my favorite books since boyhood. Ban on co-champions is most unfortunate.

Robinson Crusoe? Really? I never expected that mistake from Lynn. She should have bet less than 2000 dollars if she were to win again. But still how did she forget Treasure Island, VJ? What happened here. But glad Tristan won. I was rooting for Lynn to get this one but do your kids still read Treasure Island if they still have the book?

    • VJ says:

@Lou, I have no idea how that happened. I guess Lynn misread the clue.

My kids are acquainted with lots of RLS’ stuff though I doubt they have his books anymore. Maybe poetry. I read his poetry to all of them when they were young, like “Windy Nights,” a poem about a horseman who gallops about at night. You can make it really scary by reading the first of these lines softly and the second in a booming voice. heh heh heh — they loved that!

Late in the night when the fires are out
Why does he gallop and gallop about?

Monday 3/26 will be the first show taped after Alex’s surgery. Today’s scores were unusual in that the leader had exactly as much as the other two players combined going into FJ!. Wagering for the tie has become less popular than it used to be because of the tiebreaker clue, of which only one such clue has been seen in the 3.5 years since they abolished the co-champions rule for the tiebreaker clue.

  5. John B. says:

Again, the last ended up first. Lynn could have played for a tie. By guarding against Daniel, Lynn overlooked the fact that if she was wrong she would lose by 1 buck to Tristan…..
Since its Holy Week starting Sunday we will probably see a biblical FJ next week, most likely Good Friday. And an easy one. J will want to go into Easter weekend on a high note i presume.
    Have a nice weekend everybody!!

Unbelievable! (or should I say Unreal!) Robinson Crusoe was the incorrect answer I had in mind when I made my prediction this morning, but then after I posted it, I thought, “Nobody will make that mistake since, besides the date being off by 150+ years, it’s not the name of a place.” I especially didn’t expect Lynn to make that mistake.

Once again, I was too optimistic!

    • VJ says:

yeah, Nell, “unreal” ha ha ha!! that was so unexpected!! Gotta say I’m delighted that Tristan won. His “not much” response to Trebek’s inquiry on what he was studying in Argentina had me rolling.

Also, like me, Tristan seemed to hesitate for just a beat on that cheese clue… LOL!!! When they show you a hunk of cheese on Jeopardy! and ask you what it is, you just can’t help thinking it’s a trick question!
