WHAT IS ARBOR DAY?

Arbor Day is an annual event to encourage tree planting. According to wikipedia, the first known arbor plantation festival occurred in Spain in 1594. For the USA, it says: “The first American Arbor Day was originated in Nebraska City, Nebraska by J. Sterling Morton. On April 10, 1872, an estimated one million trees were planted in Nebraska. Birdsey Northrop of Connecticut was responsible for globalizing the idea when he visited Japan in 1883…” Become a member of The Arbor Day Foundation and they will send you 10 free trees.

Dave went with Statehood Day. He lost half his $9,200 leaving him $4,600.

Jeff went with Earth Day, which has only been around since 1970. He bet and lost it all.

Jonathan had no response. He bet the farm, too, so Dave Scatena became the new Jeopardy! champ with the $4,600 he held back.

I don’t like to see 3 men. It is almost always better when there is at least 1 woman playing.

  2. John Christian Ambion says:

Oh, my goodness. Who would’ve thought… Dave Scatena became the new J! champion because Jonathan Lindeen hit hard and went with nothing. What an end to a week of high drama.

  3. Howard says:

Smart guys tonight, but I’m surprised no one knew the liver produced bile. I got the final right away, but it was mostly an educated guess. Those two DDs really ruined Jeff’s chance of winning.

    • VJ says:

I don’t really see how, Howard, particularly since he didn’t get FJ.

Anyhow, for the sake of argument, it made sense that he tried to grab an even bigger lead on that Historical Fiction DD and it was just the breaks that he got a clue he didn’t know.

I don’t see what difference it would have made if he bet a lower amount on that last one.

Amazing how watching paint dry (NCAA tournament) is reducing the comments…🏀🙄

  5. VJ says:

The Arbor Day Foundation site also has a page where you can click on your state to find out when it is observed. I looked up Texas and here, it is the first Friday in November (Nov 1st this year). I looked on the calendar, too, to see if it was on there but it’s not.

Well since none of these guys knew arbor Day, I still think congratulations are in order for Dave though I hope he can build on his win. Very low scores today and no daily doubles nailed. I’m glad Dave didn’t bet everything but still though this group’s a bit weak. Do these guys even watch any of the peanuts specials or read the comic strips John and VJ? We finished the week up with a four time winner but still next week should be better.

    • John says:

      @Lou
Let’s hope so. Imo this week was not THAT tough, yet we only had 6/15 or 40% correct. Even the “Oscar” category was just recent…and STUART was a real disappointment. Well, hope springs eternal, so there is always next week.

  7. John B./I. says:

Well, for a while there it looked as if Jonathan might sneak up quietly without ado to the 5 mark, but…. Good thing that not all 3 players bet everything, otherwise there would be 3 new contestants on Monday….So, congratulations to Dave for win #1, albeit a small one.
Have a nice weekend everybody, spring is finally here! (Summer in HI, average 88 in the P.M.)

We have the midterm elections here in the Philippines, as well as the Eurovision Song Contest in May, John.
