Today’s Final Jeopardy question (3/22/2018) in the category “World Geography” was:
The Greek islands of Lesbos & Rhodes are each about 10 miles from the mainland of this other country
New champ Rebecca Zoshak, won $15,407 yesterday. In her second consecutive game (it’s really her third), her challengers are: Lynn Klyde-Allaman, from Lafayette, CO; and Natasha Go, from Sunnyside, NY.
Round 1 Categories: News of 2017 – Middle Initial E. – Fun With Backwards Words – Location Vacation – On the Board Game – Let’s Rewrite the Classic Novel
Rebecca found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “On the Board Game” under the $800 clue on the 13th pick of the round. She was in a second place tie with Lynn. They both had $1,600, $1,000 less than Natasha’s lead. She went with a true Daily Double and she was RIGHT.

Rebecca finished in the lead with $6,000. Natasha was second with $5,200 and Lynn was last with $4,800.
Round 2 Categories: Forests – Very Possessive – “B” Prepared – Aviation History – Sing a Song of – 6 Pens
Natasha found the first Daily Double in “Very Possessive” under the $1,600 clue on the 19th pick. She was in second place with $9,600 at this point, $400 behind Lynn’s lead. She bet $1,600 and thought it was density. That was WRONG.
According to Boyle’s Law, this in gas increases whenever the volume of its container decreases. show
Natasha found the last Daily Double in “Forests” under the $1,600 clue on the very next pick. She was in third place now with $8,000 vs. Lynn’s $10,000. She bet $1,000 this time and thought it was Syria. That was WRONG.
The Cedars of God area in this country contains remnants of an extensive ancient forest. show
Rebecca finished in the lead with $13,200. Natasha was next with $9,000 and Lynn was in third place with $8,800.
Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.
The Greek island of Lesbos (or Lesvos) lies in the northeastern Aegean Sea separated from Turkey by the tiny Mytilini Strait. Rhodes is located in the southeastern Aegean Sea. It is the largest of Greece’s Dodecanese islands. You can take a day trip by ferry to Ayvalik, Turkey from Lesbos and to Marmaris, Turkey from Rhodes. Both areas were in the news in 2017 when earthquakes struck the region.
This travel guide will help if you want a good overview of the Greek islands. This political map of the entire Mediterranean Sea is very cool, too, if you want a look at all of its major islands and bordering countries.
Lynn got it right. She didn’t bet anything so she stayed at $8,800.
Natasha thought it was Malta. She lost her $4,399 bet, leaving her $4,601.
Rebecca came up with Cyprus. That cost her $4,801. She only had $8,399 left so that made Lynn Klyde-Allaman the new Jeopardy! champ.

Alex: “No more daily doubles to hurt you.” Ouch.
Lynn is a woman on Jeopardy, Albert.
Is lynn a man or a woman?
Male.
In this local Colorado article, Lynn is referred to as “she”
I kept looking at the photo thinking “she?” I thought it was transgenger female who was wearing male clothing. And wanted to be called “she!”
Everyone has the right to be called what they want to be called in this country. So let’s leave it at that, okay?
Let’s talk about today’s game, not the players’ personal business.
Very well said, VJ..
Sorry, the tie threw me..
Easy geography question but my prediction of a triple solve were dashed again. Well kudos to Rebecca for trying but still though, how far is Malta away from Turkey, VJ? It reminded me of return to castle Wolfenstein.
I love this site and I will refer to it as often as needed for fun facts VJ. Also it has been six weeks now and we still have no streaker yet for this month.
@Lou, yeah, I was going for a triple solve, too, but I lost faith in that on the Cedars DD. That was such a tight game, though. Look on that map of the Mediterranean I linked to. You’ll see that Malta is far from Turkey. It’s a whole lot closer to Tunisia, Libya and Italy.
@John, I have seen references to “mainland Malta” though — because of the other islands that are part of that country, I guess?
LINK: 12 more clues from the match. I loved that “no, we’re not being phony” clue in “Rewrite the Classic Novel,” so I included that whole category. 🙂
Re Malta: quite possible, though in Europe it is considered an island nation.
Easy FJ, not just geographically but also the fact that Greece and Turkey have been at each other’s throats for centuries should have been a religious/political pointer.
Malta and Cyprus are islands, thus not having a “mainland”.
Jeopardy is not what it used to be, is it?
Easier questions, far more incorrect responses.
If it weren’t for this site, I’d probably have given up by now . 😉
