Katy found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “This Planet” under the $800 clue on the 9th pick of the round. At $1,600, she was tied for the lead with Michonne. They both had $600 more than Abhijit. She made it a true Daily Double and guessed Neptune. That was WRONG.

Michonne finished in the lead with $4,400. Katy was second with $3,400 and Abhijit was last with $1,400.

Abhijit found the first Daily Double in “Historic Names” under the $1,200 clue on the 3rd pick. In third place with $2,600, he had $1,800 less than Michonne’s lead. He bet $1,200 and he was RIGHT.

Michonne landed on the last Daily Double in “Classical Music” under the $800 clue, with 7 clues left after it. In second place with $8,400, she had $2,600 less than Katy’s lead. She bet $2,000 and she was RIGHT.

WHO IS ISABEL ALLENDE?
Isabel Allende is a prolific Chilean writer who has sold over 70 million books. Her works have been translated into more than 30 languages. Chile’s former president, Salvador Allende, was a first cousin of her father. After he was overthrown by a military coup on 9/11/1973, Isabel Allende was forced to flee Chile. She became a United States citizen in 1993. In her memoir, “My Invented Country”, she says she lost a country on 9/11 in 1973 and gained a country on 9/11/2001.

Abhijit thought it was Hillary Clinton. He lost his $4,300 bet and finished with $6,700.
Katy wrote down “Albright”. That cost her $12,000 and left her with $1,400.
Michonne had no response. She lost $7,000 but the $7,000 she had left meant she won the game. Her 2-day total is $22,800.

Unfortunately, tonight’s contestants were not among the 100 Americans who might know this answer. Why would anyone associate Allende with 9/11?
A competitive game ruined with an obscure question.
On the other hand, why wouldn’t anyone associate Allende with Chile?
The usual suspects connected with Jeopardy! clues about Chilean literature are Isabel Allende, Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda. The last two were poets.

Yes, it was odd that they went for politicians rather than authors.
Like Danielle Steel in late January, Isabel Allende is a Women Author that I have never heard of.
@William, just by way of additional info, Allende was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Obama in 2014. This page shows all the honorees during his presidency. There are links at the top to the specific years. (Toni Morrison, Maya Angelou and Gloria Steinem got it in other years).
