WHO IS CHARLOTTE BRONTË?
The quote comes from G.K. Chesterton’s essay on Charlotte Bronte in “Twelve Types” (1906), in which he also opines on Byron, Tolstoy, Sir Walter Scott and others. Chesterton analyzes “Jane Eyre” (1847) and makes a big deal out of the heroine’s homeliness. Charlotte Brontë, he says, “was the first to take away from the heroine not only the artificial gold and diamonds of wealth and fashion, but even the natural gold and diamonds of physical beauty and grace.” Indeed, in the book, Rochester proffers a most unromantic marriage proposal to Jane: “”You–poor and obscure, and small and plain as you are–I entreat to accept me as a husband.” Jane had more than her share of inner beauty, though. St. John Rivers wanted to marry her, too.
Patrick thought it was Emily Dickinson. He lost his $5,199 bet and finished with $5,801.
Brenda picked Emily Brontë. She lost $10,001 and was left with $2,799.
Gauravi got it right with Charlotte Brontë. She bet $10,201 and won the game with $25,601. Gauravi Shah is the new Jeopardy! champ.

And the incomplete board streak is finally over.
I have to say this was a very competitive game from all the players although i di wish patrick would win again but it didn’t happen. Gauravi was pretty quick on the buzzer and brenda was pretty close with her response. I don’t know much about the freds of hollywood do you Vj?
Well, yeah, Lou — I watched “My Three Son” when I was a kid. My kids watched “The Wonder Years.” I saw “Double Indemnity” and the Fredric March movie and I’ve seen a few movies with the very famous dancer Fred. I was amazed they didn’t get that one.
Maybe a clue on “I’m Too Sexy” Fred would have been more contemporary.
Fred Astaire is not really known now among the young people. I think Fred Astaire will be mostly forgotten in 40 years, unlike Charlie Chaplin.
