Today’s Final Jeopardy question (12/16/2020) in the category “Royalty” was:

New champ, Brayden Smith, a policy intern from Las Vegas, NV, won $31,000 yesterday. In Game 2, his challengers are: Rhonda Byer, a retired educator from Los Angeles, CA; and Spencer Robins, a graduate student & teacher, originally from New York, NY.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS HENRY VIII?

Just about everything you might want to know about “Defence of the Seven Sacraments” is in the above video, except it doesn’t address the issue of who really wrote it. It has long been debated whether parts were written by Cardinal Wolsey, Sir Thomas More and/or Bishop John Fisher. After Henry VIII broke with the Catholic church, in yet another crazy twist, he had More and Fisher beheaded in 1535 for defending their faith. The two men were declared saints by Pope Pius XI in 1935.

Rhonda got it right. She bet $2,199 and finished with $4,399.

Spencer went with James I (of England). He lost $2,999 but still landed in second place with $4,401.

Brayden got it right, too. He added $3,200 and won the game with $35,000. His 2-day total is $66,000.

I get really sad when I think about Alex passing. I don’t think anyone will be able to fill his shoes. He has been such a trouper throughout his fight with cancer. He is an inspiration to all. He is still on the TV but we all know what is coming. You will forever be in our hearts. Jeopardy is my favorite program and I surely pray that whoever takes over will do it justice.

Someone needs to teach Johnny Gilbert how to correctly pronounce Nevada! It’s not Nevahda, its Nevada, with a short a sound, as in apple.

    • William Weyser says:

Maybe, that’s just the way that Johnny Gilbert pronounces Nevada. I could be wrong, but I’m just saying.

  3. looking says:

they should have a shirtless round in double jeopardy for the cute guys.

  4. William Weyser says:

Alex’s comment of “I think you’ve found them all since you’ve been a contestant on this program” reminds me of 1 contestant earlier this season named Robert Kaine, who found every single Daily Double in both of his appearances, but unlike Brayden, who, so far, has gotten them all right, Robert only got 2 out of 6 Daily Doubles right, and it was 1 Correct Daily Double per episode.

    • Lou says:

Agree with you, the last time that this happened was when James Holzhauer had dominated the daily doubles in his initial run. So Brayden might likely copy what James did and perhaps break the record., William. Maybe an early 100K in Brayden’s pocket will be a welcoming christmas gift for him.

  5. Lou says:

Brayden scored a huge runaway today and the money he won would mean he could get a big payout tomorrow. I can’t wait for the best alex moments. Looking forward to seeing the guest hosts in the new year.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

So VJ, did you know that next week and the following they will feature a rerun with 10 episodes with best Alex Trebek moments so that means whoever wins this Friday we won’t see a player defend their title until January 4, 2021. The last day with Alex Trebek on the show is January 8, 2021.
