WHAT IS “SUCCESSION”?
After the HBO series “Succession” ended with its fourth season, creator Jesse Armstrong confirmed that early scripts for the show were based on the Murdoch family, despite previous denials. Speaking at the Edinburgh TV Festival, Armstrong said: “I wrote a script about Rupert Murdoch and his family – the real people, which was the predecessor. Armstrong said he eventually reworked the script into what became “Succession”. The Murdochs, owners of NewsCorp., became the Roy family, owners of Waystar RoyCo, a global media conglomerate.
The Primetime Emmy award-winning series stars Brian Cox as Logan Roy, head of the company, who is about to retire. Jeremy Strong, Kieran Culkin, Sarah Snook and Alan Ruck play his four grown children vying for control of the company.
Nick’s response was “Daredevil”. He lost $5,799 and finished with $1.00.
Sandy had “Matlock”. She bet and lost her with $10,600.
Ed had “Matlock” too. He didn’t bet anything because his $29,600 “couldn’t be caught”. The rest of the week will be devoted to the 3 semi-finals and Ed Hashima will be in one of them.

FJ stumped me. I figured it was Rupert so I said “The Newsroom” (which I’ve never seen). Of the listed stumpers, I knew the Russian chemist and guessed the foreign film winner’s country from the name given.
After a frustrating MasterMinds, this was a little refreshing. I did not get FJ – I said “Murdoch Mysteries”, which is on CBC, and I knew was too on the nose to be correct. (We get one Canadian channel here in WNY). Still, Ed is a good champ.
Notable was the variable strategies employed by the 3 competitors. Nick was trying the “Forrest Bounce”, while Sandy was going lowest to highest, and Ed was in between.
Ed might win it. (That’s about as substantive that I can be.)
Spoiler alert.
Haha! I think you know I meant the whole shebang!
Yes, a tough FJ to be sure, but perhaps we’ll have better luck tomorrow.
Tough final as we got our first triple stumper this week.
