Final Jeopardy: U.S. Demographics (11-12-19)

Today’s Final Jeopardy question (11/12/2019) in the category “U.S. Demographics” was:

In 2018 Forbes said this “Belt’s Demographic Delight is” this other “Belt’s Demographic Dilemma”

The second semi-final game of the 2019 Tournament of Champions features: James Holzhauer, (QF #3); Steven Grade, (QF#5 – Wild Card); and Rachel Lindgren, (QF#1 – Wild Card).

Round 1 Categories: Hail, Caesar! – World Capital Airports – Places to Live – Mammals – Fantasy Football – “X”S & “O”S

James found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “World Capital Airports” under the $1,000 clue on the very first pick– the peril of picking the bottom row clues first. Everyone was at zero. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.

James finished in the lead with $9,000. Steven was second with $4,600 and Rachel was last with $3,200.

Round 2 Categories: Naval Gazing – Visionaries – Communication – How’s Your Latin Vocabulary? – Novels by Characters – Don’t Forget the Lyrics

Rachel found the first Daily Double in “Latin Vocabulary” under the $1,600 clue on the first pick, in a bit of déjà vu — but at least she had more than the clue value. The scores were the same as above. She bet it all and she was RIGHT.

Someone deeply respected due to their serious nature has a lot of this 8-letter Latin term. show

5 clues later, James found the last Daily Double in “Visionaries” under the $1,200 clue. In the lead with $14,200, he had $7,800 more than Rachel in second place. He bet $9,066 and he was RIGHT.

In 312 before the Battle of Milvian Bridge, this man had a dramatic vision of a cross of light & went on to win the battle. show

James finished in the lead with $30,466. Steven was next with $11,400 and Rachel was in third place with $7,200.

NONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHAT ARE SUN & RUST?

The title of Pete Saunders 2018 Forbes article is “The Sun Belt’s Demographic Delight Is The Rust Belt’s Demographic Dilemma — For Now ” In it, he entertains the possibility that “Our nation could very well be entering a period in which Sun Belt cities have approached maturation, and the explosive gains they made during their adolescent period are a thing of the past. Rust Belt cities might also have turned the post-industrial corner, and found the path toward new economic sustainability.”

Business Insider has an article with a few more Belts than are shown in the above video, like the Jell-O Belt.

Rachel wrote down the Green & Rust Belts. She didn’t bet anything so she stayed at $7,200.

Steven took the opportunity to say “Thanks for having me back!” He didn’t bet anything either so he stayed at $11,400.

James had Bible & Rust. He only lost $310 and won the second finalist spot with $30,156. So the much hyped James/Emma rematch is now a reality that will take place Thursday and Friday.

We’ll find out tomorrow (sometime) whether Francois, Gilbert or Lindsey will be joining them.

James Holzhauer will WIN $250,000. I mean, it’s time to exact revenge on Emma because, you know, conspiracy. Anyway, a Triple Stumper this time and it was a TOUGHIE.

We got a match here, glad these guys were not risk takers. A tough final jeopardy but a great game. James and Rachel were close with one half of their response.
