WHAT IS INDONESIA?

The website of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Washington, D.C. has a Facts and Figures section. Per the Geography subsection, Indonesia is the largest archipelago in the world. “Straddling equator, the archipelago is on a crossroads between two oceans, the Pacific and the Indian Ocean, and bridges two continents, Asia and Australia.” It also says that Indonesia is “the world’s fourth most populous nation, is 86 percent Muslim—and the largest Islamic country, though it is a secular state. Indonesians are separated by seas and clustered on islands. The largest cluster is on Java, with some 130 million inhabitants (60 percent of the country’s population) on an island the size of New York State.”

China, India and the USA are the three countries with a larger population than Indonesia. They are all totally within the Northern Hemisphere. Brazil, the 6th most populous country, also straddles the Equator. However, it was excluded as a possible response when the clue specified the continent of Asia.

Mary thought it was India. She didn’t bet a rupee so she stayed at $4,800.

Dane got it right. He bet $25,999 and finished with $51,999.

Andrew got it right, too. He bet $22,001 and won the game with $52,001. Andrew He is the new Jeopardy! champ. Whatta game!

I thought Andrew was toast when he missed that fairly easy first DD, but he fought like heck to get back in the game and edge a strong champion. I thought of Indonesia right away, but it was just an educated guess. Not surprised the guys got it. Surprised no one knew the supposed cause of the Trojan War.

The final question was really a no brainer. Actually, Indonesia lies just northwest of Australia.

Phew, what a game! two heavyweights pummeling each other with True DD’s.

Well even though that first daily double didn’t pay off for Andrew in the first round, he still managed to make a splendid big comeback in the final round. Congrats to him and Dane on getting final right. The guys were too quick for Mary to catch up so I suspect that Andrew will have a good chance at getting a streak going just like Alan Lin did previously. This was a fantastic game I tell you.

Speaking of Indonesia, Bali is a good resort place for a tourist destination but after that attack in the early 2000s, I think Indonesia stepped up patrols now and safety will be the number one concern for all tourists entering Indonesia now.

For the first time, we have two players who finished with over 50,000 after FJ! It’s unfortunate for Mary because she was up against two crackjack Jeopardy players today.
