WHAT IS THE KIT KAT CLUB?

El Dorado was the name of various cabarets in Berlin, Germany prior to the Nazis rise to power. Christopher Isherwood was a gay English writer who moved to Berlin during this time, attracted by the free-wheeling lifestyle. However, when the Nazi took over, these venues were shut down and people with alternate lifestyles were persecuted.

Isherwood fled back to Britain where he wrote “Goodbye, Berlin” (1939), a fictional account of his life in Berlin from 1929-32. The novel became the basis for a Broadway play “I Am a Camera” (1951), and a musical “Cabaret” (1966). Both were made into films. The Kit Kat Klub stands in for the Eldorado in “Cabaret”. A new production called “Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club” has been making the rounds since 2021 and is currently playing at the August Wilson Theatre on Broadway.

Will thought it might be Rick’s (from Casablanca). He lost $7,998 and finished with $2.00.

Heather got it right. She bet it all and doubled her score to $19,600.

Ian also got it right. He bet $2,201 and won the game with $19,601. Ian Taylor is the new Jeopardy! champ.

FJ was a cinch–IF you knew the musical and the name of the club.
What a great game! Ian really should have had a lock game, but he boo-booed too many times down the stretch, including that not-too-difficult oceanic DD. Earlier I was holding my breath wondering if he’d come up with the Polish treaty. Tough break for Will on that near-miss DD.

Mythology definitely not my thing, but somehow I guessed Ra’s poisoner.

Ian squeaked through by a mere dollar in becoming the new Jeopardy champion. Congratulations to Ion! Yes, it was another fabulous game, and I performed above average in the game. As for the FJ, I didn’t have a clue as I was never a fan of the musicals.

  3. Jason says:

2/3 on DD and got FJ. I think that these two were actual competition, and Will couldn’t dance.
