Today’s Final Jeopardy question (10/28/2020) in the category “Awards & Honorees” was:

He used his 1983 Pritzker prize money on a scholarship fund for Chinese students to study their profession in the United States

3x champ, Brian Adams, an educator from Big Bear Lake, CA, has now won $44,901. In Game 4, he is up against: Scott Shrum, a digital marketing exec from Westlake Village, CA; and Jennifer Spinos, a 3rd grade teacher from Las Vegas, NV.

Round 1 Categories: Books of 2020 – Do Your Job! – Around the USA – Hodgepodge – In the Weeds – From S to T

Brian found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “Around the USA” under the $800 clue on the second pick of the round. He was the only one with money ($400). He bet the $1,000 allowance and said Charleston, even though he knew it was WRONG.

Major cities that share this name lie on the Kennebec River in Maine & on the Savannah River in Georgia. show

Scott finished in the lead with $6,000. Brian was second with $3,200 and Jen was last, at negative $400. The last 3 clues in “Book of 2020” stayed on the board.

Round 2 Categories: Ancient Contemporaries – Bands of the 21st Century – What’S Your “I.P.” Address? – Literature on the Map – Everyday German in English – New York Times Headlines

Scott found the first Daily Double in “Bands of the 21st Century” under the $1,600 clue on the 17th pick. He was in a tie for the lead with Brian. They both had $8,000. He bet $5,000 and he was RIGHT.

The last Daily Double was in the “Ancient Contemporaries” category. Alas! We didn’t get to see it when The $400, $1600 and $2000 clues went uncovered.

Scott finished in the lead with $17,800. Brian was next with $12,000. At negative $400, Jen was out of the game.

BOTH contestants left in Final Jeopardy! got it right.

WHO IS I.M. PEI?

The Pritzker Prize is often called “The Nobel Prize in Architecture.” (I learned it on Jeopardy!) I.M. Pei won this coveted award in 1983. In 2016, he also received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Asia Game Changer Awards “For changing the world, one building at a time.” From his award page: “More than three decades ago, in 1983, Pei was recognized with the Pritzker Prize…. At the pinnacle of his profession, he decided to give back. Pei used the $100,000 in prize money to establish a scholarship fund for Chinese students to study in the United States — provided that they returned to China to practice their profession. Today those students — and the thousands of architects whom Pei has taught and mentored over his long life — stand as another towering legacy, beyond the buildings themselves.”

Brian got it right. He bet $8,000 and that brought him up to an even $20,000.

Scott bet $6,300 and won the game with $24,100. Scott Shrum is the new Jeopardy! champ

This game got crazy! I hope Zach Newkirk will return in Season 38.

Why didn’t Brian get credit for his sprint answer in the s&t category? As a marathon runner I thought it was a better response than shortcut

I didn’t have room to stick this clue from the 2014 Battle of the Decades in the recap: TELL US WHAT HE’S WON! ($2000) 1983: I.M. Pei wins “the Nobel Prize of Architecture” (Brad Rutter got it.)

There was a Pritzker Prize category in 2017 but they only got to 3 clues in it. Since then, the prize has had clues every year. I.M. Pei has 3x as many clues as the Pritzker Prize

  4. Patrick Mallon says:

Brian Adams’ three day reign is over.

  5. Lou says:

Jen is now the fourth contestant to be dismissed since the guys were quick on the buzzer. Still though great.play by Scott. I hope he could get a streak running. After.I M Pei passed on last year, all the work he did were dedicated to him in memory. His legacy lives on for the people in architecture. Tons of triple stumpers here today.

  6. Kevin Cheng says:

Jennifer or Jen for short was out of FJ! and she only rang in 4 times which means she couldn’t get things rolling. She even didn’t respond any clues in Round 2. So far, we have a lot contestants got eliminated for FJ! How many do we have so far?
