Final Jeopardy: Female Music Superstars (10-22-19)

Today’s Final Jeopardy question (10/22/2019) in the category “Female Music Superstars” was:

With more than 30 Top 10 albums since 1963, this singer-actress ranks No. 1 among the Billboard 200’s Greatest Women Artists of All Time

New champ Ryan Bradley, a TV animation marketing exec. from West Hollywood, CA., won $9,199 yesterday. In Game 2, his opponents are: Martha Bordogna, an attorney from Indian Trail, NC; and Andre Havrylyshyn, a Ph.D student from Irmo, SC.

Round 1 Categories: A Tree Grows in Book Land – 21st Century Television – British Prime Ministers – What Do You Love? – Comma, Comma, Comma, Comma, Comma – Chameleon

Andre found the Jeopardy! round Daily Double in “A Tree Grows in Book Land” under the $800 clue on the 4th pick of the round. He was in second place with $800, $200 less than Martha’s lead. He bet the $1,000 allowance and he was RIGHT.

Martha finished in the lead with $6,800. Andre was second with $5,200 and Ryan was last with $2,000.

Round 2 Categories: Bridges Galore! – Potpourri – Moving the Saints – On the “B”-List – Classical Music – Giving Away the Movie’s Ending

Andre found the first Daily Double in “Moving the Saints” under the $1,600 clue on the 12th pick. He was in the lead with $12,000 at this point, $2,800 more than Martha in second place. He bet $3,400 and thought it was Florence. That was WRONG.

Martha found the last Daily Double in “Classical Music” under the $800 clue, with 8 clues left after it. In second place with $10,800, she had $2,600 less than Andre’s lead. She bet $3,500 and took a shot with “The French March.” That was WRONG.

Only ONE of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS BARBRA STREISAND?

I was able to get a pass to see the most current (10/15/19) Greatest of All Time Billboard 200 Women Artists. The Top 10 rankings:

Top 5: Barbra Streisand, Taylor Swift, Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, Madonna
6-10: Adele, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, Miley Cyrus, Carole King

Of course, these Billboard 200 charts are fluid and subject to change, like all the Greatest of All Time types, but there are some achievements that won’t change, like the fact that Streisand is the only artist to have achieved No. 1 albums in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s, to wit: Encore (2016) Partners (2014), Love Is the Answer (2009), Higher Ground (1997), Back to Broadway (1993), The Broadway Album (1986), Guilty (1980), Barbra Streisand’s Greatest Hits, Volume 2 (1979), A Star Is Born (1977), The Way We Were (1974), and People (1964).

Streisand’s acting career began on the Broadway stage with “Funny Girl” in 1964. She won a Best Actress Oscar in 1969 for “Funny Girl” (tying with Katharine Hepburn, as seen in a clue last week). See all her film awards on IMDB

Ryan thought it was Cher. He bet and lost it all.

Martha got it right. She bet $6,700, bringing her up to $16,400.

Andre came up with Cher, too. He lost his $8,801 bet and landed in second place with $1,799. That made Martha Bordogna the new Jeopardy! champ.

Can’t stop laughing that a man who lives in West Hollywood actually missed this simple question!
Oh well, overall, he did a-ok! Better than I could’ve.

I didn’t put a link to that Billboard list in the recap because you need to register over there to get a pass to see it. Here is the link, if you want to do that.

Cher never crossed my mind this morning because she wasn’t a solo artist in the 1960s and I thought they just meant solo acts. But they do have groups on that list. In fact, The Supremes have an entry at No. 17 and Diana Ross is listed separately at No. 40. Having a guy in the group is not an obstacle either — The Carpenters are listed at No. 26.

I guess I backed up into a correct prediction today. When I was watching the game, I was cursing myself for predicting only one player would get it. Congrats, Martha, and thanks!

VJ, for the $200 answer in What Do You Love you repeated the question, and put the answer to it in the $400 slot. I’m sure that JJ liked that question very much, as well as the Heliophile one lol

      • VJ says:

        Thanks, Rhonda, I fixed that.

Yeah, remember when they had a slew of rabbit clues? Now they’re on grapes, wine and sun!

        • rhonda says:

Yes, they sure have been popping up with them!

        • VJ says:

LOL, Rhonda. Also, in this game, when I saw, that Comma, Comma category, the first thing I thought of was Jimmy Jones’ “Handyman” — not Karma Chameleon! ha ha ha. The generation gap strikes again.

Jimmy Jones and Otis Blackwell sued Virgin Records over Karma Chameleon, claiming copyright infringement of that come-a, come-a hook. It got settled out of court.

        • rhonda says:

LOL VJ. I thought of Barefoot in the Park and the mantra that Cory told Paul to chant when he was scared. There’s no doubt that we are of a certain age lol.

  3. Lou says:

Well another new champion today. But I hope Martha can build up on her win. Cher wasn’t a bad guess but didn’t she rose to stardom back in 1965 with music, VJ? She launched her solo career and then made comeback albums in the late 80s. I wonder if any of her songs won though?
