WHAT IS “HAIR”?

“Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical” is a rock musical that moved from off-Broadway to Broadway in 1968. Celebrating the anti-Vietnam War movement and the hippie counterculture, it caused quite an uproar at the time. It was later made into a film simply called “Hair”, starring John Savage, Treat Williams and Beverly D’Angelo.

The original Broadway cast recording of “Hair” was No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for 13 weeks in 1969 and earned a Grammy for Best Score from an Original Cast Show Album. As for the Billboard Top 10, the 5th Dimension topped that chart for 6 weeks with the medley “Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In”, which also won Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Performance by a Group. The other three songs in the Top 10 were “Hair” by the Cowsills (No. 2); “Good Morning Starshine” by Oliver (No. 3) and “Easy to Be Hard” by Three Dog Night (No. 4).

Natalie got it right. She bet $9,000 and finished with $18,200.

Yoshie got it, too. She bet it all and doubled her score to $24,800.

Tracy was going for “South Pacific”, a 1949 musical. She lost her $8,201 bet and finished with $8,399. That made Yoshie Hill a 2-day champ with $31,600 in winnings.

  2. Dal Higbee says:

    Are Roger and Natalie related?

    • Quinn M. says:

Possibly she did mention she had a brother in her interview. However Roger does seem older than Natalie. I wish Natalie won tonight.

  3. Lou says:

Well after three triple stumper fj has ended, the correct response might let yoshi get her third win. Hopefully she can keep her wins going. Still though we will miss alex after this. Good thing Katie Couric will also guest host jeopardy as well. Hair is a great musical but I haven’t seen it in a long time. When was the last time you saw this Broadway musical, VJ?

    • VJ says:

I really don’t recall when I saw “Hair”, Lou, and it was the film, not the Broadway play. I know it was before another time when my older kids were watching that sitcom “Head of the Class”. The students were putting on a production of “Hair”. That was their first acquaintance with it.

After three straight killer FJs, we finally have correct responses from today which means we’re not going to have a week with tough FJs. How will Yoshie wrap up with Alex Trebek’s last show? Will it end on a high note? We’ll have to find out tomorrow.
