WHAT IS THE OSCAR?

A Brief History of the Oscar Trophy on Architectural Digest has some interesting tidbits for us, besides the info in the clue that the first Oscar statuette was sculpted by George Stanley. Fifteen “Oscars” were distributed at that first Academy Awards ceremony on May 16, 1929 when the silent film “Wings” won Best Picture. (That fact has come up in a number of Jeopardy! clues over the years). You will also learn why the Academy Award of Merit is called “the Oscar” and why it is technically worth only $1.00.

Harsh added $3,000 to his score. That brought him up to $6,200.

Kate bet $1,000 bet and finished with $9,000.

Amy bet $11,000 and won the game with $42,000. Amy’s 24-day total is $897,600.

This show marked a few things. I didn’t know about the “Monday curse” that Ken mentioned. Also, I don’t know if Amy was that strong, or, the challengers weren’t. But, her runaway with no DDs was remarkable. The DDs were, how do I say it, inopportune. It doesn’t help when the player gets it wrong!

The Final was waaaaaay tooooo easy.

Good start for the players in the New year and with this triple solve Hollywood and lois Angeles were the hints that got me to the Oscars. I sometimes watch the Oscars on television previously so this wasn’t too difficult. Oh speaking of the x files have you took much interest in that show VJ? There are a couple of games based on the show. Ripley believe it or not also had a game from sanctuary woods.

No, I never much cared for Scully & Mulder, Lou.

Just a note on that $2000 clue in the 1950s Television category — Jack Palance played Mountain in the TV version. (I linked to my recap of the Anthony Quinn film)
