Custer did not have long hair at the battle and he was a LT Colonel at that time.
The clue did not say he had long hair at the battle. It just said he was known for his long flowing hair. In the recap, it is mentioned that Custer was a Lt. Colonel with the 7th U. S. Cavalry. That info helped me get this question right later that same day on Master Minds (that Ken Jennings did not get!)
(5) HISTORY: In his “Last Stand” at the Battle of Little Big Horn, George Custer held what Army rank?
(a) Lieutenant Colonel (b) Major General (c) Staff Sergeant
I too was wondering if they’d accept Custard if it had been part of a correct answer. They don’t penalize for spelling, and there were no extra syllables which usually force a disqualification.
I guessed Hickok right away, then remembered that Custer’s last stand was in Montana.
Coincidentally, way back in college days, there was a guy on our dorm floor named Dave Hickok, and we called him General Custer because of his long blond hair and wispy beard.
Howard, I can’t see how they could accept Custard for Custer, particularly now that I have found out that there was at least one person named George Custard who probably read about Custer’s demise in the newspaper. To accept Custard would be totally inconsistent with their Barry Gordy ruling.
Just a poor Final Jeopardy question.
General Custard, I like that.
Reminds me of Colonel Mustard lol.
lol, Rhonda, that made me think of Colonel Mustard and “Clue”, too!!
That’s so funny it made you think of it, too, VJ!!!
So, for J historians, when was the last time we had 2 “returning champions” as we will with Brian and Zach (not counting co-champions who tied in a previous game before the rules changed)?
That would be on January 18th, 2016. The Co-Champions were Mike Drummond & Claudia Corriere, who returned, after she got a job offer that she couldn’t refuse, and if you’ve seen that episode, you may remember the ending of that episode.
Well done with the “didn’t bet a buffalo nickel” humor VJ! Last week it was “didn’t have to bet a farthing”. Both apropos to the topic.
Thanks, DC. It’s not very often that I can work that in but I love it when I can!
As for 2 returning champs, I think the last time there were 2 champs was when 4x champ Ryan Fenster was brought back on July 17, 2018. Like what is happening tomorrow, there was no tied game involved. They just brought Ryan back because they messed up on a clue in his 2-2-18 game
We end this episode with a triple stumper since today’s Final isn’t nice to anyone.
This will be epic competition! Congrats on your 7th consecutive win, Brian! We’ll see if you or Zach will win or even the challenger.
Well who will be winning tomorrow, will it be Brian Chang or Zach newkirk? The question is will Zach be able to get all the daily doubles hopefully?
Great to see Brian winning game 7.
This means that what we feared might happen tomorrow is going to happen tomorrow. Brian Chang plays against Zach Newkirk. So now, the only question is… who prevails tomorrow? 1 of the 2 Co-Champions, or our solo challenger. We’ll answer that tomorrow.
So tomorrow it will be Brian playing against a 4 time champion Zach to pick up where he left off in season 36 finale. It will be the first time having 2 co-champs against one new player similar to January 2016.
