WHO IS LADY GAGA?

The film “A Star is Born”, starring Janet Gaynor, was first released in 1937. It was based upon a story by William A. Wellman and Robert Carson and won an Oscar for Best Original Story. All subsequent remakes were based upon the same story, with updates to reflect the changing times. In 1954, Judy Garland was the film’s leading lady. This version didn’t garner any Oscars and Groucho Marx is said to haved remarked that Judy Garland “was robbed” of the Best Actress trophy. In 1976, Barbra Streisand played the female lead. The only Oscar this version got was for “Evergreen”, Best Original Song. The 2018 remake featured Lady Gaga and it also won an Oscar for Best Original Song (“Shallow”).

For avid film buffs: There’s an 18-minute video on YouTube comparing all 4 versions of “A Star is Born”. There’s also a video on IMDB showing other stars who were in the running for the female and male lead roles for the 1976 and 2018 remakes.

Ittai got it right. He bet $601 and finished with $6,001.

Tamara thought it might be Bernadette Peters while she stood pat on her $8,500.

Michael went with Katharine Hepburn. He didn’t bet anything either and won the game on the strength of his $20,800 runaway. Michael Menkhus moves on to the semifinals.

Cinch final. I’ve seen all but the original version.
DDs weren’t too difficult. I was surprised Tamara blanked out on the French phrase. Michael’s a very strong player, could go far.
Surprised no one knew the LA-based novelist. There were two major crime novelists in that era, and they gave one of them in the clue. Knew the Boston section thanks to a Billy Joel tune.

Once again, AGAIN, my local station is pre-empting J! again, this time, for golf. It just irks me. On the alternate station, it’s ET (Entertainment Tonight, not some alien!).

FJ, when I looked at it, got it instantly.
