Clayton Kershaw Signs Seven Year $215 Million Deal

Proving once again that money is no object, the Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed to a seven year contract with two time Cy Young Award winner Clayton Kershaw for a whopping $ 215 million.  That’s a ton of money for a player who only plays every fifth game, but few pitchers in the game today have the talent Kershaw has. Kershaw, who turns 26 in March, was 16-9 with a sparkling 1.83 ERA and 232 strikeouts for the Dodgers last season.  He was 21-5 in 2011, and is 76-46 with a 2.60 ERA in six big league seasons.  Watch these guys flail away helplessly at Kershaw’s pitching:

There were a couple of other signings of ace starting pitchers as we creep closer to spring training.  Washington Nationals right hander Jordan Zimmerman (19-9, 3.25 ERA in 2013) signed a two year deal for $24 million.  Tampa Bay Rays left hander David Price agreed to a one year deal for a cool $14 million.  Price was injured for part of 2013, but finished at 10-8 with a 3.33 ERA.  He was the A.L. Cy Young award winner in 2012, going 20-5.  Price has been the subject of trade rumors this winter, and some think he’ll still be dealt if the offer is right.
