Blackhawks Rookie Pius Suter Scores Hat Trick in Victory Over Detroit Red Wings

Last July, the Chicago Blackhawks signed 24 year old Zurich, Switzerland, native Pius Suter to a one year, entry level NHL contract. Suter (no relation to Ryan Suter of the Minnesota Wild) had played on Switzerland’s 2018 Olympic Hockey team and had played professionally for the ZSC Lions of his country’s National League since the 2015-16 season. Last season, Suter scored 30 goals and had 23 assists in 50 games for the Lions.

Suter got his first point of his NHL career, an assist, in a 5-2 loss to the Florida Panthers on January 17th. On January 24th, he scored his first NHL goal in a 6-2 Blackhawks win over the Detroit Red Wings. Actually, he scored his first three goals of his NHL career in that game at the United Center. No fans were present to witness the hat trick due to Covid protocols, but the game was on national television.

Chicago swept a two game set from Detroit to improve to 2-3-1 (5 points) on the season, and will open a two game series at Nashville on January 26th.
