The world’s oldest national scientific institution, the Royal Society of London for Improving Natural Knowledge was founded in 1660. Their cool motto is “Nullius in verba” could be in today’s Latin Phrases category. It means “take nobody’s word for it” and, according to their History page, exemplifies “the determination of Fellows to withstand the domination of authority and to verify all statements by an appeal to facts determined by experiment.”

The Copley Medal was named after Sir Godfrey Copley who left money to the Society that was used to fund the prize. Established in 1731, it is the Royal Society’s oldest and most distinguished award. Originally awarded for most important scientific discovery or greatest contribution made by experiment, the Society now alternates awarding the Copley Medal between physical sciences (in odd years) and biological sciences (in even years). In addition to the silver gilt medal, recipients receive 25,000 pounds ($33K+ in U.S. dollars). Learn more here.

Another big win for Amy today with 200k. It reminded me of Larissa Kelly winning The same amount previously. Caldecott medal is the award for the books for children. Also I am happy to see positive scores today after yesterday’s disastrous results. Speaking of the medal I remember Stephen hawking got this before.
