WHAT IS THE HINDENBURG?
Hugo Eckener was the head of the Zeppelin Company after World War I. He named the LZ 1929 rigid airship “Hindenburg” in honor of Paul von Hindenburg, who was president of the Weimar Republic from 1925 until his death in 1934. The Hindenburg famously met with disaster while attempting to land in Lakehurst, NJ on May 6, 1937. Paul von Hindenburg appointed Adolf Hitler Chancellor of Germany. As a result, his reputation was greatly tarnished in later years. Many sources imply that the Nazis bore some responsiblity for the Hindenburg disaster because they loosened up on strict safety measures followed by Hugo Eckener. Oh I just found there is the Waldheim resort in New York VJ. There is also a campground with the same name in Minnesota too. Why didn’t the other two know the Hindenburg? Though I would have liked to see the opponents get this one as lakehurst has a memorial site to honor the lives lost in the Hindenburg.
