WHAT IS HYPNOTISM?
Note: Ken also said hypnosis & hypnotherapy, so count yourself right if that was your guess

Thanatos was the god of non-violent death and his twin brother, Hypnos, was the god of sleep. James Braid, Scottish surgeon and philosopher is known as The Father of Hypnosis. He was obviously thinking of Hypnos when he coined the words hypnosis and hypnotism in the 1840s to distinguish his work on the topic from Mesmerism and animal magnetism, a pseudoscientific theory promoted by German physician, Franz Mesmer. Back then, hypnotism was sometimes called “Braidism”, in the same way Mesmer’s works were named after him. Even to this day, however, some think mesmerism and hypnotism are synonymous.

Related art: Fireside poet, William Cullen Bryant, wrote “Thanatopsis” in 1817, a popular poem meant to make people unafraid of death. He was a 17-year-old scholar at the time. John William Waterhouse painted “Sleep and His Half-Brother Death” in 1874. He was 25.

Dan thought it was homeopathy. He lost a mere $7.00 and finished with $2,193.

Wilson came up with euthanasia. He lost $8,599 finished with $1,801.

Peter drew a blank. He lost $9,401 and landed in second place with $1,999. That made Dan the new Jeopardy! champion. Wow! That was quite a surprise, especially for Dan!

Whoa! I didn’t expect Peter to go out that way. He loses the one time he goes big on a DD, and there went a possible runaway. I thought he opened the door wide for Wilson at that point but he ended up leading before FJ!

I got all the saint clues. I knew St. Catherine’s city and the apostle Paul was a tentmaker before he followed Jesus..

$2,193 is the lowest one day total of this season and also the lowest winning score in regular-play this season, the lowest since Bevin Blaber won $600 on June 19, 2025. Dan got lucky that Wilson bet too much. Wilson should have bet no more than 5,999 to keep Dan locked out. Dan only got 7 correct in today’s main game and he only has 14.6 % chance to win tomorrow. I hope Dan can improve his buzzer timing in tomorrow’s game.
