Nibir finished in the lead with $27,595. Tyler was next with $14,600 and Xiaoke was in third place with $11,600.

TWO of the contestants got Final Jeopardy! right.

WHO IS CHARLEMAGNE?

TimelessMyths.com has separate sections comparing the historical Charlemagne with his legends, including Roland and Oliver who are listed under “The Twelve Peers Explained”. In “The Song of Roland”, he was Charlemagne’s nephew, a son of his unnamed sister. After the death of Roland’s father, she married Ganelon, the villain, so Roland was betrayed by his stepfather. “Charlemagne, the Legend” debunks that through Einhard, Charlemagne’s biographer, who wrote that Gisela, Charlemagne’s sister, “took the vow to become a nun, so she didn’t have any husbands, let alone two sons, one from each husband.” I don’t see what that proves as married and widowed women were put away in convents back then but, whatever, there’s also a Historical Background section on “The Song of Roland”.

Xiaoke got it right. She bet $1,600 and finished with $13,200. Yesterday’s $800 brought her up to $14,000.

Tyler got it, too. He bet $5,200 to finish with $19,800 today. His $200 from
yesterday gave him $20,000 even.

Nibir wrote down Charlemagne, to show he knew it. Then crossed it out and wrote down “Who da man?” To show he wasn’t talking about himself, he pointed at Alex and said “You da man.” He lost his $2020 bet, dropping today’s score down to $25,575. That was enough to win the tournament by itself but with his $22,195 from yesterday, his score shot up to $47,770.

Nibir won $100,000, a guaranteed spot in the next ToC and a trophy; Tyler won $50,000; and Xiaoke won $25,000. Congratulations to all three!

Congrats to nibir on the big win and to all three on a great game. That five dollar betting strategy was something he learned from james holzhauer.

I wonder if this unnamed sister made the right choice in marrying Ganelon because many villains can end up abusing the women that they love and torture them, VJ. Do you remember zeus and hera? How he never divorced hera was another mystery but do you know if that bears some similarity with Ganelon and that girl he married?

    • VJ says:

I don’t know, Lou, but a second husband’s resentment of a woman’s kid(s) by her first husband and/or resentment of the stepfather by the kid(s) is a common theme in many stories. I remember that it was a subplot in “The Thorn Birds” — and how about “The Stepfather” movies (omg!)

I hope he can go faster than Jason if he was his opponent.
