Mozart’s widow set about getting the piece finished (so she could get paid!) and ultimately settled on Franz Süssmayr, who “wrote out the entire score in his own hand (so as to allay suspicion of multiple authorship) and forged Mozart’s signature (but stupidly dated it 1792!).”
