Lolo Jones Wins Gold at World Championships—in Bobsled
Olympic hurdler Lolo Jones decided to try her hand at something a little different a few months ago and tried out for the U.S. women’s bobsled team. She made the team, and now she is showing that she is world class in a second sport.
Jones was part of the bobsled team in a combined bobsled and skeleton event at the World Championships at St. Moritz, Switzerland. The U.S. team took the gold medal in the competition January 27th, and the Elena Myers – Lolo Jones sled had the third fastest time in the women’s bobsled portion of the event.
Jones now has world championship gold medals in the 60 meter hurdles (at the World Indoor Championships in 2008 and 2010) as well as this event. She’s had disappointing finishes in the 100 meter hurdles in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, finishing seventh and fourth, respectively. With the 2014 Winter Olympics just 13 months away, she’s got a good shot at heading to the Olympics again, this time as a bobsledder. Perhaps she could finally get that elusive Olympic medal.
