UCLA Freshman QB Josh Rosen Outstanding in Debut, Leads Bruins Over Virginia 34-16
Much heralded freshman quarterback Josh Rosen was better than advertised in his first game as UCLA quarterback, leading the #13 Bruins to a 34-16 victory over the Virginia Cavaliers in Pasadena in the season opener for both teams September 5th. Rosen was 28 for 35 passing, with three touchdown passes and, importantly, no interceptions.
Rosen had some big shoes to fill replacing three year starter Brett Hundley, who is now backing up Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay. He was more than up to the task. He’ll be an exciting player to watch this season. We don’t like to talk about the Heisman Trophy in terms of freshman, especially after just one game, but what the heck: Johnny Manziel (2012) and Jameis Winston (2013) were freshman quarterbacks who won the Heisman so it could happen again.
