Tim Tebow Signs With Jacksonville; Will Attempt Comeback as a Tight End

Heisman Trophy winner and former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow will attempt to return to the NFL, this time as a tight end. Tebow, who won the Heisman in 2007 at Florida and was a two time National Champion with the Gators, signed a one year contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Tebow will turn 34 this summer, and has not played in the NFL since the 2015 preseason. He last played a regular season NFL game in 2012 with the New York Jets. He was drafted by Denver and played with the Broncos in the 2010 and 2011 seasons, but then Denver signed Peyton Manning and traded Tebow to the Jets. Tebow played minor league baseball in the New York Mets organization from 2016-19, topping off at the Triple A level.

Tebow is a Jacksonville native, and new Jaguars head coach Urban Meyer just happens to be his former college head coach. Tebow is obviously a versatile athlete, but he faces an uphill struggle to make the team. Besides being an age when a lot of NFL players are retiring, Tebow is attempting a comeback at a position he’s never played, plus there are five other tight ends on the offseason roster.

Here’s a highlight reel from Tebow’s final college game, when Tebow led #5 Florida to a 51-24 blowout win over previously unbeaten and third ranked Cincinnati in the 2010 Sugar Bowl:
