The Family: New Drama on ABC

ABC has a new drama called “The Family” that premiered last Thursday, March 3rd. (Missed it? Watch it online now). It’s about a boy named Adam Warren, who disappeared when he was 9 years old when his older siblings were supposed to be watching him at a fair. Ten years later, Adam walks into the police station and identifies himself to Detective Nina Meyer, the officer who was in charge of his case. Meyer solved the case by convincing the Warren family’s next door neighbor, Hank, to plead guilty to murdering Adam and off Hank went to jail for a crime he didn’t commit.

At the time of his reappearance, Adam’s mother Claire is the mayor of their town, Red Pine, Maine. She is considering a run for governor. Older sister Willa is like a political aide for her mother. Willa also has a secret that has something to do with helping to get Hank locked up. Adam’s father, John, has a secret, too. He is having an affair with Detective Meyer!

On the day Adam disappeared, Danny, the older brother, wasn’t really watching him. He was making out with a girl, maybe it was this reporter Bridey, who magically appeared when Danny was out getting drunk after voicing his suspicions on whether Adam is really Adam. Bridey reminded Danny that she was there when Adam got kidnapped.

Danny pointed out to his mother and sister how weird it is that, all of a sudden, Adam likes eggs, and how, mysteriously, he doesn’t know how to put a ship inside a bottle. That was little Adam’s hobby and passion before he was kidnapped. There was a DNA test, Willa screams… or was there? Bridey tried to contact the doctor who performed it and was told that no such doctor exists but she didn’t tell Danny that.

“The Family” will be back on Sunday, March 6th, in what is going to be its regular time slot (9 pm Eastern/8 pm Central). Here are the cast members and what we know about them so far:

Liam James – Adam Warren, the kidnap victim, presumed murdered, or someone else claiming to be Adam; described his abductor as a pock-faced man who kept him locked in a basement; watches old tapes of young Adam
Joan Allen – Mayor Claire Warren, Adam’s mother, decided to run for governor
Rupert Graves – John Warren, Adam’s father
Margot Bingham – Det. Nina Meyer, was 25 when the crime occurred, got promoted for solving the case
Zach Gilford – Danny Warren, oldest Warren child, has a drinking problem
Alison Pill – Willa Warren, middle Warren child, possibly planted evidence (a ship in a bottle) at Hank’s house to implicate him in Adam’s disappearance
Andrew McCarthy – Hank, a conviction for a sex offense made him a likely suspect when Adam disappeared
Floriana Lima – Bridey Cruz, a reporter who learns that the DNA test is a possible fiction
