The Departed: 2006 Best Picture

“The Departed” was the Best Picture winner at the 79th Academy Awards, also picking up Best Director (Martin Scorsese). The other Best Picture nominees were “Babel”, “Letters from Iwo Jima”, “Little Miss Sunshine” and “The Queen”.

Forest Whitaker took home the Best Actor Oscar for his uncanny portrayal of Ugandan dictator Idi Amin in “The Last King of Scotland” and Helen Mirren won Best Actress for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in “The Queen”, marking two years in a row that the top acting awards went to roles portraying real people.

Alan Arkin won Best Supporting Actor for “Little Miss Sunshine” and Jennifer Hudson won Best Supporting Actress for “Dreamgirls”, her film debut.
