Supporting Cast: Down Like the Titanic – Shameless

Here are some of the actors and actresses who appeared in “Down Like the Titanic,” the seventh episode of Shameless, Season 9 (10-21-18): The recap of the episode is here.

Andy Buckley in Shameless

I want to see Mount Fuji, Frank!

Andy Buckley played Randy, Ingrid Jones’ ex-husband who lives next door to her and defines his life by taking care of her when she has a bipolar episode. Randy has some problems of his own but, as Ingrid tells Frank, “the best of us have personal experience with mental illnesses. That’s why we’re good at our jobs.” Randy has issues with boundaries but Frank was on hand to make him see that he was doing himself a disservice by hovering over Ingrid and micromanaging her illness. Frank convinced Randy that he should get on a plane and go see Mount Fuji, which would leave Ingrid in Frank’s hands. Poor Ingrid. Or maybe it’s going to be “poor Frank.” Randy did say that Frank won’t know what hit him when Ingrid goes bananas.

J.P. Manoux in Shameless

I don’t like when things change suddenly

J.P. Manoux played Zach, one of Ingrid’s patients. Zach has body dysmorphia and can’t get out of bed because he believes his head is disproportionately large. Zach blamed it on his mother and said she even lords it over him that she pays for his therapy. Zach was also a bit miffed that Dr. Jones was sitting behind her desk when she usually sits in her chair. He never did find out the reason.

Paget Kagy in Shameless

Not my problem… wow!

Paget Kagy played Jazmin, the patient that Frank counseled when Dr. Jones went under the desk. Frank actually helped Jazmin more than Dr. Jones helped Zach. He broke her new iPhone NYP and told her NYP stood for “not your problem. She just needed to get a new phone and a new number so her ex-boyfriend Jeremy couldn’t call her anymore.

Richard Flood in Shameless

Instead of taking videos, could someone help me get down, please.

Debbie helped Fiona get revenge on Ford for lying about his marital status to Fiona with the help of Farhad and Alex and a stun gun. They stuck Ford in a stock-like apparatus with a big sign telling everyone what a butthole he is. For good measure, they pulled his pants down so everyone could see his butt and Fiona took a few shots at it with a paintball gun. Debbie has always shown true Gallagher ingenuity when coming up with plans of action. Remember when she Krazy Glued Mama Kamala’s eyelids shut back in Season 3?

It would seem like that was Richard Flood’s last episode as Ford Kellogg, and also would seem odd that they would promote Flood to a series regular only to discard him mid-season. Whatever, on his IMDB profile it says he will be in Episodes 8 through 12 when the series returns.

Dropped Plots: So far, nothing has ever come of the disappearance of Carl’s wife, Kassidi. For that matter, when we left the Gallagher in Season 8, Franny’s father, Derek was getting married to Pepa, his current girlfriend, and they were going to seek joint custody of Franny. When the show returns, perhaps that storyline will show up again now that Debbie plans on using Liam as her babysitter. Also, Kev and Veronica deciding to adopt a newborn made us ask the question: whatever happened to Kevin’s son by his mother-in-law, Carol? And what about Rusty the dog? What will become of him?

In all likelihood, the show’s writers will have forgotten about all that and maybe by the time the show returns next January, we will too.
