Rookie Keston Hiura Has Stellar Series as Brewers Take Two of Three From Braves

Milwaukee Brewers 2nd baseman Keston Hiura was the organizations top overall prospect going into the 2019 season. He opened the season in the minors, but then was called up to Milwaukee. He played in 16 games before being sent back down in early June, to the dismay of a lot of Brewers fans. At the time he went back to AAA San Antonio, Hiura was hitting .281 with five homers and nine RBIs.

He was not expected to be down long, and was indeed recalled in late June. The way his July has gone, we think he may be back for the rest of the season. In 13 games in July, Hiura is hitting .400 with four homers, 10 RBIs, a slugging percentage of .780 and an on base percentage of .474. Milwaukee took two of three in a set with the Atlanta Braves at Miller Park July 15th-17th, and Hiura was eight for 11 with three doubles, a triple, a home run, and four RBIs. Here’s the triple in the July 15th game:

In 124 at bats on the season, Hiura was hitting .323 with six doubles, a triple, nine homers, and 19 RBIs, plus five stolen bases, after the July 17th game. Kind of hard to send him back down with those numbers.
