Rogers Twins Win And Lose in Padres-Giants Game

Taylor and Tyler Rogers are twins who both are Major League relief pitchers. Until recently Taylor played for the Minnesota Twins, until he was traded to the San Diego Padres last week. Tyler is the closer for the San Francisco Giants. They had never played against each other in the majors until April 11th when the Giants hosted the Padres in the first of a three game series between the National League West rivals. The Elias Sports Bureau, which keeps track of everything, says this is the first time a set of twins has opposed each other in a major league game, with both of them seeing action in the Padres’ 4-2 victory.

The two brought the lineup cards out to the umpires prior to the start of the game. Tyler Rogers pitched the top of the seventh inning for the Giants, and allowed one run on an RBI groundout by Manny Machado. That made it 3-2 San Diego; the Padres didn’t trail after that and scored an insurance run in ninth. Tyler Rogers was the losing pitcher. Brother Taylor came in to the game in the top of the ninth to close it out, which he did, allowing one hit and no runs, and earning a save.

This was the first of 19 games between these two teams this season, so they’ll get plenty more opportunities to face each other in what figures to be a tight race between the Padres, Giants, and Los Angeles Dodgers.
