Red Sox Win World Series

Steve Pearce hit a pair of home runs to drive in three runs and David Price pitched seven strong innings as the Boston Red Sox beat the Dodgers in Los Angeles 5-1 on October 28th to win the World Series in five games. Price picked up his second win of the Series, and third overall in the post season. Pearce, the 35 year old journeyman first baseman who has played for seven major league teams, also had a home run in Game 4, and four RBIs. Pearce was named the Series MVP.

And so the Red Sox, who had the best record in the majors this season, are also the World Series champs, in manager Alex Cora’s first season at the helm. The Dodgers have to settle for the National League Pennant for the second straight season. Clayton Kershaw, a dominating pitcher in the regular season, took the loss for L.A. He is now 9-10 with a 4.32 ERA in 30 post season appearances vs. 153-69 and a 2.39 ERA in the regular season. He can opt out of the final year of his contract to test the free agent market. Whether or not a change of scenery would change his post season luck is anyone’s guess; however, David Price had troubles in the post season until this year, too. The Dodgers will have to decide if they want to pay shortstop Manny Machado a boatload of money, too. Contract option pickups an free agency begin immediately with the World Series over, so stay tuned for trades and other player movement. Baseball’s Winter Meetings are December 9th-13th, when many of the blockbuster deals are made.
