Ray Donovan Recap: Inside Guy (S7 E6)
That was one hilarious second scene on “Inside Guy”, Episode 6 of Ray Donovan’s Season 7. Ray and Molly Sullivan arrived at his place, on fire with passion and on the way into the bedroom, only for Molly to land on top of Ray’s daughter Bridget.
Sweetheart, I think that’s something you gotta do ~ Ray Donovan
Ray asked Molly to give him a minute and Bridget laid her sob story on Ray. She wanted to know what he did to make it better when he had affairs. (Well, he didn’t go home and tell Abby, for one thing). She wanted her father to get Adam Rain to drop the assault charges against Smitty but Ray told her that was on her. Enter Bunchy in the other room, while Molly quickly put down the framed picture of Abby, Conor and Bridget she was looking at. Molly had to wait again while Bunchy told Ray about robbing the Value Chain stores. Bridget came out to get a drink and told Molly: “If I were you, I wouldn’t touch our family with a ten-foot pole.” Hardly appropriate. Bridget could have sent Ray a text that she was at his place and avoided that whole scene.
Ray was appalled to learn that Bunchy robbed the Value Store chains. He said if Bunchy needs money, he could work for Ray. Bunchy was happy, forgetting how he angrily quit the last time he worked for Ray. Apologetically, Ray offered to call a car to take Molly home. The red flags were there — my relatives first, then you — but she suggested they both go to her place, where it was a lot less crowded.
I would feel a whole lot better if there was a body, Ray ~ Jim Sullivan
She should have said a little less crowded because her father was over there putting two and two together. Jim Sullivan wanted to talk to Ray, not Molly. He told Ray about the ’77 heist and how the men who were just murdered were in on it, along with Mickey Donovan. O’Malley’s son, Ronny, has been blackmailing Jim for 30 years over the tapes his father made and Ronny thinks Jim murdered his father and Doyle. Jim knows Mickey is supposed to be dead, but in the absence of a corpse, he’s pretty sure Mickey is the only other person with a reason to knock off Doyle and O’Malley. Ray left and Molly got hit with another red flag from her father who told her that Ray is “creative with violence.”
We got the goods here ~ Mickey Donovan
Meantime, Mickey and Aunt Sandy went to O’Malley’s nursing home and went through his stuff. They found his sons’ addresses and went over to pay Ronny a visit. Daryll insisted on being the one to get the tapes off Ronny. “I don’t want any more people killed,” he said but Ronny pulled a gun and Daryll had to bump him off. At least he got the tapes.
Last thing anybody knew, Larry went swimming. A black guy signed him out. ~ Jim Sullivan
Smitty was not at the office so Ray had to send new employee, Bunchy, to the airport to find out if Mickey got on the plane to the Maldives. Ray went to Ronny’s house, found his body and the safe wide open. He called Jim Sullivan who had learned that O’Malley was signed out of the nursing home by a black guy named J. White. That meant nothing to Jim but Ray instantly knew it was Daryll. He headed to Daryll’s and broke the door open. Jasmine, Daryll’s neighbor, assumed Ray was a cop and began taping him on her cell phone. She scoffed when Ray said he was Daryll’s brother. Outside, Detective Perry was waiting to tail Ray.
Jim Sullivan called his crazy son, Declan, to enlist his help. Declan refused to help unless Jim would give him the CEO job he was giving to brother, Kevin. Declan also told his father not to trust Ray.
He’s all bent outta shape over Bridget ~ Terry Donovan
Smitty dropped in on Terry to get advice about Bridget. Ray called Terry and asked him to go check out Sandy’s place and see if anyone was there. Smitty just would not shut up about his marital troubles but they did get Ray a lead that Sandy left her credit card at the Dusty Bottoms in Rose Beach.
Bridget was busy getting Adam Rain to drop the charges against Smitty because it would be more of a “rock ‘n roll reason” if he said he had to cancel a tour after breaking his arm trashing his own equipment “during a a hot session.” Adam was enchanted with her chutzpah but Smitty was enraged. He told Bridget he wants the charges back. Terry had no sympathy for Smitty and said that Smitty married Bridget forever when he killed “that cop” (Danny Bianchi). That’s something to think about at any time but at this particular time, Terry and Smitty had to switch cars with Ray who realized Det. Perry was on his trail. Det. Perry pulled Terry and Smitty over. She slapped handcuffs on Smitty and took him off somewhere to work on getting some admissions out of what she perceives as the weakest link in the Donovan chain. We’ll see how that goes now that Smitty knows he’s sort of in the Irish mafia.
In Rose Beach, Ray picked up Sandy’s credit card and was having a Johnnie Walker Black, neat, when he suddenly heard Mickey’s voice. He followed Mickey to a house only to get jumped by Daryll. Ray wanted to know what Daryll was doing. Daryll said “You know, Ray Ray, you don’t get it.” It seemed like Daryll was on the verge of explaining something but Ray said “What don’t I get? Why you’re following Mick around like some bleeping trained monkey?” That went over like a lead balloon and Daryll attacked Ray again. Ray picked up a liquor bottle but managed to get Daryll in a chokehold without using it. When Ray let him go, Daryll accused Ray of never looking at him as a brother and he wanted Ray to say it to his face. Ray told Daryll to go bleep himself and walked away. Daryll picked up the bottle and knocked Ray unconscious with it.
That was the end of the episode. It’s really hard to tell how many days this is happening over because one minute it’s daytime and the next, it’s night. It was daytime when Smitty got handcuffed and night when Ray got knocked out. So if Terry didn’t get in an accident, swerving all over the road in Ray’s car, he should be home. As for Bunchy, he went to the hospital only to learn that the boy he shot, Mateo Santiago, died when an infection set in.
