Queen Latifah Supports Gay Pride but Keeps Mum on Lesbian Issue

Queen Latifah wants to put an end to gossip about her performance at Long Beach’s Lesbian & Gay Pride event on May 19: it was not a statement on her own personal life and did not mean she was coming out as a lesbian.

“That definitely wasn’t the case,” the Queen told Entertainment Weekly, “I’ve never dealt with the question of my personal life in public. It’s just not gonna happen.”

Well, actually, a couple of years ago, she told Alloy.com that she has wanted to have children since she was 18 years old. And that came up again in a More magazine interview at the end of last year when she said that she was definitely going to adopt or have a child, something she has wanted since she was 17 or 18. So evidently, she will talk about her personal life if and when she feels like it.

Queen Latifah will be starring in an up-coming Lifetime remake of “Steel Magnolias.” She will play the character played by Shirley MacLaine in the original, and will be joined by an very impressive cast: Alfre Woodard, Jill Scott and Phylicia Rashad. Phylicia’s daughter, Condola, will play Shelby, the role originated by Julia Roberts.
