Princess of Cambridge Arrives

UPDATE: The royal baby’s name has been released. She is Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana of Cambridge, named after her grandfather, great-grandmother and grandmother, all on the paternal side. Prince Charles was hoping for a granddaughter and now he has one who bears the feminine form of his name.

Prince William and Catherine, The Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child, a baby girl born on May 2, 2015 at 08:34 BST. The little Princess weighed in at 8lbs 3oz, and has already met her 21-month older brother, Prince George, and been introduced to the crowd gathered outside St. Mary’s Hospital in west London.

The child is 4th in the line of succession behind her grandfather Prince Charles, and her aforementioned royal father and brother. She is Queen Elizabeth’s 5th great-grandchild.

Kensington Palace announced the birth shortly after 11:00 BST, saying “The Queen, the Duke of Edinburgh, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news.” The statement also conveyed the royal couple’s thanks to the hospital staff and “everyone for their warm wishes.”
