Patti LaBelle Sued for Tantrum

The legendary Patti LaBelle is being sued for, of all things, terrorizing a baby.

The child’s mother spoke to CBS News on Tuesday, Nov. 15th, describing how the “New Attitude” singer went into a fury upon encountering her in the lobby of the Upper West Side apartment building last year. She was with her husband and the 18-month old daughter, Genevieve.

According to Roseanna Monk, who also had another child on the way at the time, LaBelle criticized her for allowing her child to wander about the lobby. Mrs. Monk told LaBelle to mind her own beeswax. This apparently put the then 66-year-old diva on the warpath and she let loose a tirade of profane language, then threw a bottle of water on Monk and her child. It is also alleged that LaBelle attempted to come after and strike her. “Her people had to literally hold her back,” Monk said.

The Monks are suing for emotional distress and claim the reason they are suing is to teach Patti LaBelle a lesson. If they are successful, they plan to donate any proceeds from the lawsuit to a children’s cancer charity.
