WHO IS HENRY PERCY -or- HOTSPUR?

From Wikipedia: “Henry Percy, ‘Hotspur’, is one of Shakespeare’s best-known characters. In Henry IV, Part 1, Percy is portrayed as the same age as his rival, Prince Hal, by whom he is slain in single combat. In fact, he was 23 years older than Prince Hal, the future King Henry V, who was a youth of 16 at the date of the Battle of Shrewsbury.”

Matt thought it was Louis X. He bet and lost all 5,200 points.

Mattea had Henry of Navarre but only lost 314 points, finishing with 10,886.

WHAT IS “GÖTTERDÄMMERUNG” (“TWILIGHT OF THE GODS”)?

Wikipedia has an entry on all the bombings of Vienna during the second World War. The March 12, 1945 entry reveals that the Vienna State Opera House was not the target of the bombing that day. The Floridsdorf oil refinery was. “747 bombers and 229 fighter planes caused heavy damage to the city centre and the Vienna State Opera and the Burgtheater burnt, and the Albertina, the Heinrichshof (on Ringstraße) and the Messepalast (Trade Fair Palace) were heavily damaged.” I don’t think “appropriately” was the best choice of words for the clue. Perhaps a reference to a bad omen would have been better.

Mattea went with Lohengrin. She lost 601 points and finished with 5,799.

Andrew had Marriage of Figaro. He lost 801 points, and finished with 15,199.

Matt bet nothing, standing pat on his 32,800 points. He wrote a touching tribute to his fellow Masters: What an honor it is to share a stage with these wonderful people.

ENDING POINTS SEMIFINAL #4: Mattea 2 Andrew 2 Matt 3

The tiebreaker for Mattea and Andrew was decided by how many correct responses each one gave. Mattea had 50 and Andrew had 45, so the finalists in the 2023 Masters Tournament are: James Holzhauer, Matt Amodio and Mattea Roach.

I’ve missed many of the Masters games, but did see these. Most of the clues are so far over my head, I just keep shaking it when they respond correctly.
But I surprised myself by nailing several stumpers (it pays to be old): the singer’s TV series; the White Album song; the He-man castle (I had 2 young sons in the 80s); and the Fred Gwynne sitcom.

The solar eclipse and Yemeni seaport DDs were super easy (the latter was a cinch if you do crosswords).

If you ask me, they could have just cut a check for $1M or whatever the prize is and handed it to James on the first night.

I agree that it pays to be old sometimes, Howard. LOL!! I got all those “vintage” stumpers. As for He-Man, my son also was a big fan of his. I remember taking him out to see He-Man at one of those Meet the Cartoon Character events.

I agree about just handing it to James, but we’ll see if a bold DD can depose him.

I think our Castle Grayskull is still out in my garage somewhere.
My boys also had several of the action figures.
