Maple Leafs Beat Canadiens 4-2 in Matchup of NHL North Leaders
With the Covid-19 temporary creation of the all-Canadian North Division, the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens will meet 10 times in the regular NHL season. The division leading Leafs traveled to Montreal to take on the second place Canadiens on February 10th. The Leafs won the only previous game between the two so far this season.
The Maple Leafs scored three times in the third period, including twice within 42 seconds, to win 4-2. Toronto’s Auston Matthews, who leads the NHL with 11 goals, was held without a goal for the first time in nine games, but did contribute an assist. Four different players scored for the Maple Leafs; Jake Muzzin had three assists and John Tavares had two more. Goalie Frederik Andersen had 33 saves.
Toronto (11-2-1, 23 points) widened its lead to five points over Montreal. The two will meet again in Toronto on February 13th; in between, the Canadiens will host Edmonton on February 11th.
