Kings Take 2-0 Lead Over Oilers in 1st Round of Playoffs

A first round Stanley Cup playoff matchup between the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers is turning into an annual thing, at least it has over the last four years. Edmonton has won the first three of these, but the defending Western Division champs are in some trouble this time around.

Adrian Kempe had two goals and two assists and Anze Kopitar had a goal and three assists as the Kings defeated the Oilers 6-2 on April 23rd in Los Angeles. Add that victory to the Kings 6-5 win on April 21st, and Los Angeles has a 2-0 lead in the best of seven series. Los Angeles had the best regular season home record in the NHL at 31-6-4, but was just 17-19-5 on the road, so winning these first two home games bodes well for the Kings’ chances. Los Angeles also won the regular season series 3-1, sweeping the Oilers at home and splitting the two in Edmonton.

The Best of Seven series resumes in Edmonton on April 25th.
